In an unusual and personal appeal to party workers on a day the BRS brass was apprehending the arrest of his daughter, Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao asserted that the party would do an encore in the next Assembly elections, regardless of the heinous attacks the BJP was resorting to in a bid to stymie the pink party’s growth.

The chief minister’s statement on Monday, 20 March, came at a time when the Enforcement Directorate (ED) was questioning his daughter and MLC K Kavitha in Delhi for her alleged role in the Delhi liquor scam — and assumed significance as the party leaders have been raising hell over the way the central investigation agencies were bearing down on the BRS at the insistence of the BJP.

‘Fight against propaganda’

The chief minister, in his statement, asked the party workers to resist and repulse the propaganda of the BJP against the BRS.

“Be in the midst of the people. Pay back in the same coin to the “menial” parties that make irresponsible allegations against us. You should not forget that you have enormous strength in you which had ensured the party won two Assembly elections back to back,” he said.

‘Work for the nation’

The chief minister also underscored the need for the party’s leaders to have a national perspective as the party had already gone national. The purpose of upgradation of the party was to make sure that all the other states become as economically vibrant as Telangana. All the workers should lend their shoulders in this effort, he said.

KCR pointed out that the BJP would continue to stall the progress of the state by being partisan against it besides cutting no slack in the attacks it has been carrying out on the BRS. The party workers knew how to deal with the BJP. They already have the experience of facing attacks in thousands and conspiracies in lakhs, he said.

The chief minister said that he was depending on the party workers in his journey to bring about a transformation in the country. “You are my strength and you are my army,” he said and asserted that at the end of the day, it is dharma that would win the battle.

He sought to reinvigorate the party cadres so that they would rise to face the present challenge, keeping in mind that they were the ones who fought valiantly for Telangana.

“Do you think it would have been possible to get Telangana state had we been scared of the consequences?” he asked, adding that he was moving forward with the slogan “Abki Bar Kisan ki Sarkar”.

Pumping up the cadres

The chief minister said that he would not be able to repay his gratitude to the party workers who were with him through thick and thin.

“As this is an election year, the party activists should be alert all the time and watch out for conspiracies to derail the BRS apple cart. The responsibility of infusing more strength into the sinews of the BRS rests on your shoulders,” he said.

KCR ridiculed the BJP for having no vision for the development of the country.

“It does not have vision, commitment, or dedication. That is why the BRS is coming out with a new agenda for the nation. We always take a task to its logical conclusion, once we take it up. That is our identity,” he said.

Tracing the development of Telangana since its formation in 2014, the chief minister said that it was a journey from land of privatisation and drought to a land of plenty.

Today, Telangana people radiate smiles, he pointed out. Telangana’s lush green canopy is visible to everyone. People have a full course meal every day. This is how Telangana has become a role model for the entire nation, he said.
