Problems related to water, electricity supply, farmers’ suicides, hunger deaths, and closure of industries were prevalent when Telangana was formed in 2014, Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao said in Sirpur on Wednesday, 8 November.

KCR has embarked on a high-octane election campaign seeking a third term in the state. He has been attending two to three meetings a day.

On Wednesday, he addressed rallies at Sirpur and Asifabad, before hitting the road to Bellampalli. He took the road route after his helicopter had developed a technical snag.

The campaigning is expected to gather more steam from 13 November. KCR, who began his campaign on 15 October, has already addressed as many as 40 public meetings and is scheduled to attend another 43 between 13 and 28 November.

Addressing the meetings at Sirpur and Asifabad, KCR went hammer and tongs at the BJP and the Congress and sought to rake the Telangana sentiment.

Telangana sentiment resurfaces

At the meeting at Sirpur a day after Prime Minister Narendra Modi remarked that the people of Telangana had been cheated, the chief minister listed problems that existed before the state was formed in 2014.

“You should decide what is waste and who is waste,” KCR told the gathering. He alleged that the Congress delayed the formation of the state during the previous UPA regime.

He accused the Congress of forcibly merging Telangana with Andhra to form the undivided Andhra Pradesh.

Referring to the Congress’ promise of doing away with the Dharani Integrated Land Records Management System, KCR said the BRS introduced it to resolve disputes related to farmers’ lands and make land registrations easier.

Dharani has become a major political contention between the political parties as the ruling MLAs, allegedly, were grabbing the lands using the online process. He asked how farmers would benefit directly under the ‘Rythu Bandhu’ scheme and other initiatives if Dharani was abolished.

“There are no deaths due to drinking contaminated water like before. We are improving the lives of the tribals. The children are studying well. More seats are opening up in MBBS and Engineering courses. The BRS government should come back for these development programmes to continue,” he stated.

“If it (the power) is handed over to the Congress, Rythu Bandhu (Farmer’s investment support scheme) will be halted. The kingdom of Patwaris and Dalaris will emerge,” KCR added.
