Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Tuesday, 10 October, kicked off the BJP campaign for the Assembly elections in Telangana, making a fervent appeal to the people to throw out Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao’s BRS government lock, stock, and barrel.
“The Telangana Assembly elections are on 30 November. On 3 December, all of you will see the BJP capturing power in Telangana. Time has come for a double-engine sarkar to be in place in Telangana also,” Amit Shah said, amidst cheers from the audience.
BJP governments both at the Centre and the state is the the “double-engine” that will drive faster development, the party believes.
Addressing a huge rally in Adilabad, a day after the Election Commission of India (ECI) sounded the poll bugle, the BJP leader sought to expose Chief Minister KCR’s “ulterior motive” in seeking to come to power once again.
“All along, KCR has been thinking of how to make his son the chief minister of the state, while Narendra Modi’s soch (thought) has been to empower the youth by creating jobs for them,” he said, asking people whether they really wanted KCR to come back, and making them respond in the negative.
“You have two choices. One is the KCR government, which thinks of his son and daughter, and on the other hand you have Prime Minister Narendra Modi who thinks of Dalits, the poor, and adivasis,” he said.
The Union home minister said that Modi also addressed the crucial issue of the allocation of Krishna river waters between Telangana and Andhra Pradesh.
He cleared a Cabinet proposal for the issue of fresh terms of reference to the Brijesh Kumar Tribunal to decide on the allocation of Krishna waters to the two states, projects-wise, said Shah.
“The prime minister did it after waiting all these years for an initiative to come from KCR,” he added.
Amit Shah said that during the last decade, KCR had not done anything either for the farmers, Dalits, tribals or the weaker sections, but has kept on bragging that Telangana was number one on several development indices.
“Telangana has occupied number one position in farmers’ suicides, attacks on children and women, acts of corruption, and scams,” the Union minister said.
Amit Shah’s public meeting came close on the heel of two similar rallies which Prime Minister Modi had addressed a few days ago in a span of three days, one in Mahbubnagar and the other in Nizamabad, which is a neighbouring district of Adilabad.
Though the content of his address was no different from earlier ones, trying to punch KCR in his face for following blindly what AIMIM asks him to do and seeking to push forward the Hindutva agenda, the crowd cheered him, particularly the youth when he called them “jigar ka thukda” and tried to turn their thoughts against KCR for the latter’s failure in providing them jobs.
He accused the KCR government was being run on the directions of Majlis (AIMIM).
“Do you want Telangana to run on the directions of Majlis,” Shah asked the public and appealed to them to dethrone the KCR government and elect a BJP dispensation.
The Congress government had earlier dragged the construction of Ram temple in Ayodhya. However, Modi took the initiative to construct the shrine and the grand temple will be ready by January 2024, Shah added.
Amit Shah once again elaborated on how the BJP cared for tribals, recalling the prime minister announcing the National Turmeric Board for Telangana which he said would transform the lives of the turmeric farmers by helping them earn more by exporting their produce at an attractive price.
In fact, the Nizamabad-Adilabad area and adjoining Maharashtra are home to turmeric cultivation, and it had been a long-standing desire to have a board for getting a better price for turmeric.
Amit Shah also mentioned the Cabinet clearing the Tribal University. He blamed KCR for not allotting land though the prime minister wanted to locate it 10 years ago as he desired that the tribals get access to courses in education that dwell on their culture and heritage, among others.
The prime minister also provided 33 percent reservation to women in all legislative bodies, he contended.
The BJP leader said the saffron party wanted the fruits of development to reach the tribals. The prime minister was more concerned about tribals and that was the reason why he had made Draupadi Murmu, a tribal woman from Odisha, the President of India.
