Synopsis: BRS supremo KCR announced a public meeting in Warangal on April 27 for the party’s 25th anniversary. He criticized Congress for failing to deliver on promises and emphasized BRS as the protector of Telangana’s interests. KCR also voiced concerns over the Centre’s hostility towards Telangana and the lack of BRS representation in Parliament.
After losing the 2023 Assembly elections to the Congress, the BRS party is now gearing up to demonstrate its strength.
Party supremo and former Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao announced on Friday, March 7, that a massive public meeting will be organized in Warangal on 27 April to mark the party’s 25th anniversary.
Addressing party leaders at his Erravelli farmhouse in Siddipet district, KCR revealed that the party is scouting for a suitable location to host the event.
“The BRS has always stood by the aspirations of the people of Telangana from the very beginning. It remains the only political force capable of safeguarding the interests of Telangana,” he asserted.
The former chief minister pointed out that the Congress government’s failure to deliver on its promises over the last 14 months has made this even more evident. He highlighted the growing dissatisfaction among the people toward the state government.
The silver jubilee celebrations are expected to energize the party’s cadres and leaders, who are still recovering from the demoralizing defeat in the Assembly elections.
The party’s loss in the subsequent Parliament elections was even more humiliating, as it failed to win even a single seat. The Congress and BJP split 16 seats equally, while the MIM secured the remaining one.
KCR recalled the exemplary governance of the BRS during its 10-year rule, which he said had made Telangana a role model for other states. He expressed dismay that the progress achieved under his government is now being reversed under Congress’s rule.
He emphasised that the silver jubilee celebrations should not be limited to the party but should be organized as a people’s event across the state. “BRS is a homegrown party, built by the people of Telangana. Today, they are facing numerous challenges and have veered to the conclusion that BRS is the only party that can protect their interests,” KCR said.
He reminded party leaders how the Congress had deceived the people with false promises. “The people have now seen the true nature of the Congress. Whenever elections are held, they are ready to rally behind BRS,” he said, expressing confidence that the public meeting in Warangal would witness a massive turnout. He instructed leaders to organize preparatory meetings at the constituency level and form committees soon to ensure the celebrations turn out to be a gala event.
KCR exuded confidence that the Warangal public meeting would strengthen the party institutionally, from the village level to the state level. He announced that new committees would be formed, and a representative meeting would be convened with the newly appointed leaders. He also stressed the need to increase youth and women’s participation in the party.
The meeting also discussed the current political situation in the state and the country. Strategies to be adopted, precautions to be taken, and political moves to be implemented were thoroughly discussed.
The leaders resolved to reflect on past challenges and use those lessons to chart a course for the future. KCR expressed concern that the Centre, regardless of which party is in power, has always been hostile to Telangana’s interests.
The absence of BRS’ representation in Parliament was also identified as a critical issue affecting Telangana’s interests. The meeting emphasized the need to raise awareness among the people and ensure that BRS secures parliamentary representation to protect the state’s rights.
During the meeting, KCR sought opinions from all the leaders present. Several leaders shared their perspectives with him. The marathon discussion, which lasted nearly eight hours, took a close look at the policies of both the state and central governments and how they have harmed the interests of Telangana’s people.
