Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao, in an oblique reference to Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) president A Revanth Reddy, came down heavily on him, saying that he had carried even the shoes of Andhra leaders.
Addressing an election rally in Cheryala in the Jangaon Assembly segment on Saturday, 18 November, the chief minister demanded to know what moral right Revanth Reddy had to criticise him.
“Did he fight for Telangana? In fact, it was he who took a rifle to fight a Telangana protagonist. Everyone knows the kind of ‘chenchagiri‘ he had done for former chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu,” he said.
The BRS chief wanted to know whether it was proper for Revanth Reddy to criticise him, who went on an indefinite hunger strike for Telangana.
“He says he will perform the obsequies to KCR. Is this the way one should talk? It is you who should decide to whom obsequies should be performed,” said the Telangana chief minister, adding that only those who had realised that they were losing would be blabbering like this.
He said it would be proper if rivals addressed rallies and explained to people what they intended to do, but using disrespectful language was not fair. “Does he think that I cannot heap abuses on him? If I begin abusing him, it will go on till tomorrow,” said KCR.
The chief minister tried to whip up the Telangana sentiment once again by taking the people to the days of the rule of the Andhra leaders.
“Did anyone ever pay any attention to the problems that we had faced then? It was a time when farmers were dying by suicide unable to bear the losses they had incurred in agriculture. There was no water either for drinking or for crops,” he said.
“The Congress was responsible for the agony of the farmers in those days, and it is now coming before them to seek their support in the election,” he claimed.
KCR said that this was the reason he told farmers repeatedly that they should make an informed decision on who would be best for their welfare.
He asked them not to forget the kind of tormentor that the Congress had been before the bifurcation of the state. Farmers should evaluate who had done what for the state, he said.
“The Congress is guilty of making the people of Telangana suffer for 58 years. It was only after the creation of Telangana that the lives of the people became better,” the chief minister said.

The chief minister said that if the BRS’ rule continued for another 10 years, the quality of life of the farmers would improve tremendously.
“The government has already initiated several farmer-friendly measures, like Rythu Bandhu and procuring entire paddy grown by the farmers. The Telangana government waived the water cess after realising that it had become a burden on them,” he noted.
He reiterated the Asara pensions would be gradually increased to ₹5,000 from ₹2,000 and dared rival political parties to show any state paying such a ₹2,000 pension now.
“We will increase the Rythu Bandhu subsidy amount to ₹16,000 per year,” he said, warning voters that if they chose the Congress, power supply to the farm sector would come down to three hours from the present 24×7 supply.
