BRS supremo K Chandrashekar Rao on Sunday, 5 May, said the Telangana movement was still on and that he was still responsible for steering the state in the right direction.

Addressing a rally in Veenavanka in the Karimnagar Lok Sabha constituency, the former chief minister said BRS was bound to return to power whenever Assembly elections were held — be they mid-term or after the end of the current term.

It was a mistake to think that one would be in the reckoning only when one won the elections, he claimed.

KCR also said no matter what the result was in an election, a people’s representative should continue to work for the public.

‘Lot remains to be done’

“A lot of work remains to be done in Telangana,” he said, expressing sorrow over how the governance in the state had apparently plummeted to abysmal depths within four months.

He said the Congress government needed to do nothing extra as the BRS dispensation had left proper infrastructure in place.

“What one needs to do is allow continuity. There is no need for new canals or new projects. Everything was there before you came,” he said.

The former chief minister said it pained him to see reports that some enterprises were contemplating shutting shop and moving to other states.

There were power cuts even for industries now, which was making them think twice about staying in Telangana, he said, adding that one company had already shifted out of Telangana.

When BRS was in power, a conscientious effort was made to garner investments for the state, but that effort was singularly lacking now, he claimed.

On power, water, infrastructure

KCR also wondered aloud why there was a problem with the electricity supply now. There used to be no hitch in supply for the 10 years when BRS was in the saddle, he said.

“Come the Congress government, and the power sector in the state seems to have landed in a mess. Why should there be power cuts?” he asked.

“What happened to Mission Bhagiratha? Why is it that there is a disruption of water supply under the project? Why is it that women are having to venture out with water containers?” he continued.

The BRS leader also recalled the apparent facelift given to government hospitals when he was the chief minister.

“We developed hospitals. We helped mothers admitted to government hospitals for deliveries by handing them KCR kits. It signalled an end to the exploitation of private hospitals,” he said.

“Institutional deliveries in government hospitals were on the rise. But now the situation has changed. There are no KCR or no nutrition kits,” he claimed.

“I came to know that air conditioners were not working at the Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Hospital in Warangal. The situation seems to be very pathetic at the Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences in Adilabad as well,” said KCR.
