Revanth Reddy criticises KCR government's debt; highlights farmer support initiatives
Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy held a press conference, addressing the state’s financial condition and reaffirming the government’s commitment to empowering farmers.
The Chief Minister pointed out that when the Congress left Telangana in 2014, the state was burdened with ₹69,000 crore in debt and a surplus of ₹16,000. However, after taking over from KCR, Telangana’s debt had ballooned to ₹7 lakh crore, he revealed.
Despite this financial strain, the chief minister emphasised that his government had fulfilled its electoral promises, particularly in supporting farmers. “We are providing loan waivers, free electricity, subsidised fertilisers, support prices, and the employment guarantee scheme,” he said, listing the steps taken to alleviate the agricultural community’s burdens.
“The Congress gave #Telangana a debt of ₹69,000 Crore and a surplus of ₹16,000 (in 2014). However, when we took over from KCR we were in a debt of ₹7 Lakh Crore,” #Telangana Chief Minister @revanth_anumula stated at a press conference.

The chief minister highlighted that over 2 lakh crop loans had been cleared, and a total of ₹20,616 crore in loan waivers had been granted to 25,35,964 farmers. “This is a significant step in supporting the state’s farming community, even in the face of massive debt,” he added.
Revanth Reddy also took a dig at the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) government’s earlier efforts at loan waivers, accusing them of underperforming. He promised that the “Rythu Bharosa” scheme would be implemented after Sankranthi on behalf of Congress leader Sonia Gandhi, aiming to further support Telangana’s farmers.
The chief minister also assured that the ₹500 bonus on fine rice would continue into the next season.
In closing, he expressed readiness to discuss the implementation of the state’s promises with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, signaling an intent to engage with the Centre on crucial issues affecting Telangana’s development.
