The cause of the blaze

Apparao, a sub-inspector associated with the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport Police Station, was the investigating officer in the case.

He told South First, “During our investigation, employees recounted that Kamal Kishore attempted to light the stove on the morning of 14 December. When the stove didn’t ignite, he left momentarily to fetch fire with a paper. When he returned and placed the paper with fire on the stove, it resulted in a blast.”

He added: “The investigation revealed that the stove was not of the typical household variety, causing the remaining gas to ignite and catch fire. The owner is being questioned. We have registered a case against him and the investigation is underway.”

Meanwhile, the FIR — accessed by South First — said that a complaint was received on 14 December from NM Khaja, the police officer on patrolling duty in the Shamshabad area.

At 11 am a dial 100 call reported a fire accident at the Gaganpahad industrial area. Responding promptly, the complainant and Yadagiri, another officer, rushed to the location and conducted an inquiry.

Upon reaching the site, they observed no fire. Their inquiry revealed that there was leakage from the gas pipeline in the Karachi Bakery Godown at 10.30 am, resulting in a fire caused by the gas stove.

It led to 15 individuals — all residents of Gaganpahad and originally from Uttar Pradesh — sustaining burns.

The complaint alleged negligence on the part of the owner of the Karachi Bakery outlet, citing a lack of precautionary measures regarding gas pipelines in emergencies and the absence of emergency fire exits.

Consequently, an FIR was registered at 1 pm under Sections 337 (causing hurt by acts endangering life or personal safety of others) and 338 (causing grievous hurt by an act which endangers human life) of IPC against the owner.
