Synopsis: Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy called for a unified front in the run up to the bypoll for the Jubilee Hills Assembly constituency. Listing his government’s achievements, Reddy urged party workers to connect with the public at the grassroots. He further added that no decision has yet been made on the party’s candidate and urged leaders not to speculate on the matter.

Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy on Tuesday, 24 June, called for close coordination between the Congress party and the state government in the run-up to the by-election to the Jubilee Hills Assembly constituency.

The seat has fallen vacant following the recent death of Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) MLA Maganti Gopinath. As per the Election Commission’s mandate, the bypoll must be held within six months.

Addressing the Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) political affairs committee meeting – attended by AICC in-charge Meenakshi Natarajan and PCC President B Mahesh Kumar Goud – Reddy underlined the importance of winning the seat.

He further added that no decision has yet been made on the party’s candidate and urged leaders not to speculate on the matter.

Call for unity and grassroots preparation

The chief minister directed Hyderabad in-charge Minister Ponnam Prabhakar to ensure unity among city leaders and strengthen the party’s campaign.

He also expressed his readiness to tour districts to mobilise workers, calling on both leaders and cadres to prepare proactively for all elections, including the next Assembly polls, irrespective of their schedule.

Warning against complacency, he said any slackness could harm the party’s future electoral prospects.

Listing his government’s achievements, Reddy urged party workers to connect with the public at the grassroots.

He further called for the formation of committees at the booth, village, and mandal levels to ensure quick mobilisation.

Assuring that committed workers would be rewarded with government roles if the party regains the seat, he cited previous examples where party loyalists were recognised during its opposition years.

At the same time, he criticised those lobbying for cabinet posts through supporter-led protests, saying such practices must stop.

He noted that appointments would be performance-based, and non-performing leaders could lose their positions.

Revanth challenges KCR to debate GB-link project

Later, speaking to the media at the state secretariat, he challenged former Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao to a public debate on the Godavari-Banakacharla Link project proposed by Andhra Pradesh.

He offered to convene a special session of the Assembly to present documents allegedly signed by the previous BRS government, approving the diversion of Godavari waters to the Banakacharla reservoir in Andhra Pradesh’s Nandyal district.

The chief minister also questioned the renaming of the Pranahita Chevella project to Kaleshwaram, and its relocation from Thummidi Hatti to Medigadda, alleging that the changes were motivated by kickbacks.

Asserting his commitment to Telangana, he added, “If I wanted, I could have stayed with Chandrababu Naidu, but I joined Congress to serve Telangana’s interests.”
