The BJP will expose how the Congress government in Telangana has not kept many of its six guarantees and several other assurances, party National President JP Nadda said in Hyderabad on Saturday, 7 December.

Sending clear signals that the Telangana BJP unit is getting back into action mode, Nadda said the Congress was taking the people for a ride by breaking the promises.

The BJP president’s presence in Hyderabad, coupled with Union Minister of State for Home Bandi Sanjay’s fiery attack on A Revanth Reddy saying that the Congress was working in league with minorities to convert the old city into another Bangladesh seemed to have revved up the spirits of the party workers.

The saffron party has been lying low after the Lok Sabha elections and it appears to have decided to move forward and regain the Opposition political space.

The BJP president tried to energise the party workers by saying that the party was on the rise all over the country and the Congress was on its way out. He said the Congress came to power only in three states, that too through dubious methods.

“The Congress wrested power in Telangana, Karnataka, and Himachal Pradesh through deception and trickery,” Nadda said.

Nadda targets borrowing spree

Though there was not much crowd at Saroornagar Stadium where the public meeting was convened to counter the Congress’s celebration of one year in power BJP leaders, including MPs DK Aruna, M Raghunandan Rao, and Eatala Rajender trained their guns on the ruling party. It was expected that one of them would be appointed the president of Telangana BJP.

Nadda said that the party has decided to wage an unrelenting war against the Congress on issues concerning women, farmers, youth, and workers.

“The BJP will become the heartbeat of the people of Telangana,” he said, adding that all-round development and a glorious future would be possible only with the BJP in power.

He said that once the BJP comes to power in Telangana, it will stay in power forever. Reeling off statistics of central projects and funds for Telangana, Nadda said the hallmark of the saffron party was development while that of the Congress was inefficient in implementing its promises.

The BJP leader said that no government would survive long if it went on borrowing like the Congress in Telangana. He wanted the people to realise that Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s heart always reached out to Telangana. As the nation gallops towards becoming the third most powerful economic power in the world, Telangana, too, would benefit from it, he said.

Nadda said that not keeping the election promises has become a second nature for the Congress which was evident not only in Telangana but elsewhere in the country.

‘Congress, BRS share same DNA’

“What has happened to the old pension scheme in Himachal Pradesh? When is the Congress paying ₹15,000 to Anganwadi workers in Karnataka? When is Congress paying ₹12,000 per annum to autorickshaw drivers who are finding it difficult to make ends meet after women were allowed free travel on RTC buses in Telangana,” he asked.

He termed the BJP a monolith in the country. “It is in power in 19 states, in coalition in six states. If the BJP comes to power in a state it would continue to be in power forever,” Nadda said, adding that the party was riding to power effortlessly in several states, term after term.

“It came to power six times in Rajasthan, three times each in Goa, Madhya Pradesh, Haryana, Maharashtra, and two times in Uttarakhand,” he said.

Union Minister G Kishan Reddy said there was no difference between the Congress and BRS in belying the expectations of the people who had fought and secured Telangana in the hope that their lives would be better.

Though it is one year since the Congress came to power, it has not yet implemented even one of its promises properly, he said, adding, “The DNA of Congress and the BRS is the same.”
