In an attempt to quell dissent in the BRS ahead of the Assembly elections in the state, party chief and Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao on Thursday, 5 October, nominated four leaders — including two MLAs — as heads of corporations.

Of them, the notable posting is Muthireddy Yadagiri Reddy, the sitting MLA of Janagoan, as the Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TSRTC) chairman.

Calming the mood

KCR, while announcing candidates for the Assembly elections, deferred a decision on who should contest from Janagoan. Since then, Yadagiri Reddy has been turning like a flea on the hot plate as to what would be his fate.

Yadagiri Reddy, a two-time BRS MLA, is always in the news for the wrong reasons.

His daughter Tuljha Bhavani Reddy had accused him of grabbing 1,270 sq yards of prime government land and fraudulently registering it in her name. She also accused him of forging her signature. She lodged a police complaint against him but he denied the allegations.

In 2017, then Jangaon district collector Sridevasena submitted a report to the state government that the legislator had encroached on Dharmoni Kunta Lake land.

By another decision, the chief minister appointed former deputy chief minister and sitting Station Ghanpur MLA Dr T Rajaiah the chairman of the Rythu Bandhu Samithi, replacing incumbent Palla Rajeswar Reddy. The order was a clear indication that Rajeswar Reddy would be the BRS candidate for Janagoan.

Rajaiah, who was upset more because the BRS ticket went to his bete noir Kadiam Srihari than he not being able to make the cut for renomination, had been unable to come to terms with reality since the day KCR announced the list of candidates for the Assembly polls.

On the day, the chief minister announced former deputy chief minister Kadiam Srihari’s name, dropping incumbent Rajaiah. The former deputy chief minister, upset to no end, went in a procession to BR Ambedkar Statue in Janagoan and cried inconsolably at the feet of the statue.

More appointments

The chief minister, by another decision, appointed Nandikati Sridhar as the chairman of the Most Backward Classes Development Corporation.

Sridhar bid goodbye to the Congress and joined the BRS only on Wednesday after Malkajgiri incumbent MLA Mynampalli Hanumantha Rao quit the BRS and joined the grand old party.

Sridhar joined the BRS after he came to know that Mynampalli and his son would be given Congress tickets for the Malkajgiri and Medak seats.

Sridhar, who was the Malkajgiri district Congress president, had his hopes pinned on the seat, but soon the writing on the wall became clear to him.

After joining the BRS, Sridhar said that he was peeved over the systematic marginalisation of the Backward Classes (BCs).

He added that the consideration of Mynampalli and his son Rohit for Malkajgiri and Medak, respectively, had shown that the Congress was not the place for BCs. He vowed to defeat Mynampalli in Malkajgiri.

The chief minister also appointed Uppala Venkatesh Gupta, from the Kalwakurthy Assembly segment, as the vice-chairman of Mission Bhagiratha.

He joined the BRS only in August, and BRS working president KT Rama Rao on the occasion praised him for his commitment to social service, and also promised an important sinecure to him in the government.

Venkatesh is a ZPTC member from Talakondapalli in the Kalwakurthy segment. As the chairman of the Uppala Charitable Trust, Venkatesh has been helping poor students financially to continue their studies.

He became a sarpanch at the young age of 18 which helped him in rising quickly in the BRS.
