The Hyderabad Centre of India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Wednesday, 28 September, predicted heavy rainfall accompanied by thundershowers and lightning for all the districts of Telangana.
This came after the IMD issued an orange alert for Hyderabad and its neighbouring areas earlier in the day.
The alert means that the city is likely to receive heavy rainfall with high gusts of wind.
“The heavy rains are due to a trough line (water channel) developing due to upper air circulation around the Bay of Bengal. Another east-west trough is coming from Andaman to the Bay of Bengal,” K Nagaratna, the head scientist at the Weather Forecasting Department of IMD Hyderabad, told South First.
She added that on Wednesday, South and South East districts of Telangana were expected to receive more rainfall, while North East districts are expected to see erratic rains on Thursday.
Large parts of Hyderabad, including the outskirts, saw moderate to heavy downpours over the past few days, which led to water stagnation in many low-lying areas.
Inundated roads also affected the free flow of traffic.
Orange alert for Hyderabad
According to the IMD, Hyderabad on is likely to experience cloudy weather throughout the day on Wednesday, with intense spells accompanied by thundershowers.
Maximum temperatures are expected to be between 31 and 32 degrees Celsius, while the minimum temperatures will be between 20C and 21C.
Intense spells of thundershowers are also expected during the day, the IMD said, adding that winds between 8 and 12 kilometres per hour could be experienced.
Earlier, many places in the city were reported to be waterlogged during rains over the past couple of days.
Meanwhile, earlier in the day, the IMD issued a yellow alert from 28 September to 30 September for almost all the districts of the state, asking citizens to “be prepared” for moderate to heavy rainfall.
Here is a list of all the states placed under yellow alert:
