As Mythri Movie Makers is known for producing big-budget superhit movies with leading actors and actresses, many influential people and politicians from the two Telugu-speaking states were believed to be invested, according to the I-T Department.

For the second consecutive day on Thursday, 20 April, the sleuths of the Income Tax (I-T) Department continued raids at the house of Sukumar — the director of the blockbuster film Pushpa: The Rise — and the offices of Yerneni Naveen and Yalamanchali Ravi Kumar’s Mythri Movie Makers in Jubilee Hills in Hyderabad in connection with alleged irregularities in filing I-T returns.

After examining the documents found during Wednesday’s raids, the I-T Department is believed to have unearthed the purchase of large tracts of land in prime locations in the erstwhile Ranga Reddy district.

There were also allegations that several NRIs invested money in Telugu films in violation of norms. The I-T sleuths were in the process of verifying this.

Politicians, influential people invested

As Mythri Movie Makers is known for producing big-budget superhit movies with leading actors and actresses, many influential people and politicians from the two Telugu-speaking states were believed to be invested, according to the I-T Department.

More clarity on the violations by the filmmakers would be achieved only after examining the documents.

Mythri Movie Makers came under the scanner of the I-T Department a few months ago, prompting the taxmen to carry out raids to find violations.

After directing the blockbuster movie Pushpa: The Rise, which won fame across the globe because of its songs and powerful dialogues of actor Allu Arjun, Sukumar is now directing its sequel, Pushpa 2: The Rule, which is expected to be released by the end of this year.

The I-T Department is said to be leaving no stone unturned in conducting raids to check the balance sheets and other documents.

The films produced by Mythri Movie Makers include Srimanthudu, Janatha Garage, Rangasthalam, Uppena, Pushpa: The Rise, Mathu Vadalara, and Sarkaru Vaari Paata, along with the recently released Veera Simha Reddy and Waltair Veerayya.
