The Indian Meteorological Department has forecasted a yellow alert for heavy rain very likely to occur at isolated places in Hyderabad for next 24 hours.(Screengrab)
Heavy rains lashed many parts of Hyderabad throughout the afternoon and evening on Wednesday, 7 September, disrupting normal life and halting commutes at several places.
Parts of Malakpet, Koti, Charminar, Himayatnagar, Khairatabad, Banjara Hills, Jubilee Hills, Alwal, Rajender Nagar, Chandrayangutta and other regions witnessed heavy showers in the city.
Rain also affected the Khairatabad Ganesh pandal, as darshan had to be suspended temporarily.
The Moosarambagh bridge was once again flooded due to the torrential rains.
Malakpet recorded 69.8 mm of rain from morning till 6 pm on Wednesday, which was the highest in the city.
Rajendranagar received 66.8 mm of rain, while LB Nagar received 63.8 mm of rain.

Till 6 pm on Wednesday Malakpet has recorded 69.8 mm of rain since morning, the highest in the city. Rajenderanagar received 66.8 mm of rain while LB Nagar received 63.8 mm of rain.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for heavy rain that is very likely to occur at isolated places in Hyderabad for the next 24 hours.
Apart from Hyderabad, the IMD also predicted rains in isolated places in the Mancherial, Peddapalli, Jayashankar Bhupalpally, Mulugu, Bhadradri Kothagudem, Khammam, Nalgonda, Suryapet, Rangareddy, Medchal Malkajgiri, Vikarabad, Sangareddy, Medak, Mahabubnagar, Nagarkurnool, Wanaparthy, Narayanpet, Jogulamba Gadwal districts of Telangana.
Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning are very likely to occur at isolated places in all the districts of Telangana, said the IMD.
The cyclonic circulation, because of which the rain is occurring, “now lies over interior Karnataka and neighbourhood, and extends upto 1.5 km above the mean sea level”, according to the IMD.
Another cyclonic circulation lies over east-central and adjoining south-east Bay of Bengal, and extends up to 5.8 km above the mean sea level, it added.
Under its Influence, a low-pressure area was expected to form over west-central Bay of Bengal during next 24 hours, the met department said on Wednesday.
Meanwhile, Telangana’s average cumulative rainfall from 1 June to 7 September this year has been 902 mm against a normal of 628.4 mm, the deviation being 44 percent.
The GHMC Average Cumulative rainfall from 1 June to 7 September is 597.3 mm, against a normal of 495.4 mm, which makes it a deviation of 20.6 percent.
Out of the 33 districts in Telangana, seven have received large excess (60 percent or more above normal) rainfall, while 24 districts have received excess (20 percent to 59 percent above normal) rainfall.
Only two districts have received “normal” rainfall, which is a deviation of 19 percent both ways around the normal.
