In search operations on Monday, 9 October, the Hyderabad Police seized a substantial amount of unaccounted cash, along with jewellery and pressure cookers, across various areas of the city.
The total cash confiscated in the operation reached ₹61 lakh, while the seized jewellery was valued at ₹7.5 crore. Adhering to the Model Code of Conduct in Telangana, the police were conducting checks at various locations in the city.
The Abids Police initiated a vehicle checking drive. While conducting checks at Gate No 1 of Nizam College at 7.30 pm, the police stopped an MG electric car and discovered bags in the vehicle.
Upon inspection, the police found gold biscuits weighing 7 kg and pure silver weighing 250 kg, with a total worth of ₹7.5 crore. The occupants of the car identified themselves as Sai Kumar (driver), M Shiva Prasad (accountant), and K Venkatesh (office employee).
They admitted to working for gold and silver bullion merchant Caps Gold Private Limited in Secunderabad, and claimed that they were transporting the bags to their sub-branch at Gunfoundry, Abids. However, due to the lack of proper documentation, the police seized all the jewellery.
K Venkateshwarlu, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Central Zone, stated that the provided delivery paper needs thorough verification by the Income Tax and GST Departments.
Noteworthy incidents during the operation include the Film Nagar Police intercepting a Hyundai Creta at Narayanamma Engineering College during a routine vehicle check. Sub-inspectors Vinod and Raghavender Reddy discovered ₹30 lakh of unaccounted cash in the vehicle.
In a separate event, Goshamahal Police apprehended Shankar Yadav, a resident of Begum Bazar, during the investigation of suspicious movement near Gandhi Statue, Puranapul.
A vehicle check of his Honda Activa revealed ₹15 lakh in unaccounted cash. At 7 pm, Chaderghat Police detained Y Gopi Rao at Panchsheela X Roads and seized ₹9.3 lakh in unaccounted cash from him.
Additionally, the Vanasthalipuram Police executed two successful cash seizures during an operation. Firstly, at 6.30 pm, they stopped a Toyota Innova at Autonagar and found ₹5.16 lakh in the possession of the driver, Samreddy Bharath Reddy. Subsequently, at 7 pm, a Maruti Suzuki Swift was intercepted at the same location and ₹1.6 lakh was confiscated from Edukunta Jagadish Goud.
In response to the strict enforcement of the election model code of conduct throughout the state, Gachibowli Police conducted thorough inspections, uncovering a violation in Serilingampally. A total of 87 cookers intended for distribution among voters in Gopanapally Thanda were seized during the operation.
The individuals responsible for the attempted distribution, Ramulu Naik and Narsimha, were apprehended by the police. Interestingly, the confiscated cookers bore stickers featuring the images of Serilingampally Congress party leaders, including Raghunath Yadav.
An official case has been registered and law enforcement authorities are actively investigating the incident.
