The crime team of the Bahadurpura police in the South Zone of Hyderabad City apprehended two persons in connection with a kidnapping case and rescued a one-and-a-half-year-old girl within five hours.

The incident unfolded under the limits of the Bahadurpura Police Station on Monday, 25 December.

The police identified the accused as 62-year-old housewife Naseem Begum, a resident of Mahmood Nagar of Bahadurpura, and 32-year-old housewife Ayesha Begum, a resident of Falaknuma.

The cops on Tuesday registered a case under Section 363 (punishment for kidnapping) read with Section 34 of the IPC in this regard.

“This is a sensational case. The family of the accused was in search of a baby to adopt, but they found a baby girl playing alone while his parents were standing in queue for tickets,” said Deputy Commissioner of Police (South Zone) Sai Chaitanya.

“They hatched a plan to kidnap the baby and take it to an undisclosed location or their residence,” he added.

The police action

Naseem Begum has four children, all of whom are married and have families of their own, except for Ayesha Begum — her eldest daughter.

At approximately 3 pm Naseem Begum, who was looking for a kid for her daughter to adopt, kidnapped the one-and-a-half-year-old girl from Kishanbagh Park.

The baby was handed over to Ayesha Begum at Nawab Sahab Kunta in an auto-rickshaw.

The police set up three teams and meticulously checked around 100 CCTV cameras.

With the help of local residents, they identified the accused, and intercepted and apprehended both at Tadban X Roads within five hours. They successfully rescued the girl and reunited her with her parents.

The apprehended accused persons are currently in custody and will be produced before a district court, said the DCP.
