Synopsis: A Hyderabad man, Mohammad Yousuf Ali, was killed in a missile attack on Riyadh’s King Khalid International Airport on Saturday, 10 October, AIMIM president Asaduddin Owaisi said. The Indian Embassy in Saudi Arabia confirmed the death of an Indian national and said three injured Indians were in intensive care but stable. A second attack on Sunday killed one person and injured 11 others, with Yemen’s Houthi rebels claiming responsibility for both strikes.

A man from Mehdipatnam in Hyderabad, Mohammad Yousuf Ali, was killed in the first of the two missile attacks on King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, on Saturday, 10 October, AIMIM president and Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi said. Ali’s two sons were injured, one requiring knee surgery, while his wife and daughter were safe.

Owaisi said he was in touch with Ali’s brother-in-law in Riyadh and had spoken to the Deputy Chief of Mission at the Indian Embassy. He urged External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar to ensure that the family received all possible assistance.

“His son is undergoing knee surgery, another son is in the hospital and 3 of his toes have been cut off. His daughter and wife are safe. His aunt (chachi) was with them, and suffered injuries to the head but is out of danger. I am in touch with Yousuf’s brother in law in Riyadh and the DCM has assured me that they’re taking care,” Owaisi said in a post on X on Sunday.

The Indian Embassy in Saudi Arabia confirmed that one Indian national had died in the attack. Three injured Indians were in intensive care but stable, while two others were admitted to regular wards. The remaining injured Indians had been discharged.

Two attacks in two days

Ali was among the 13 people killed in the first of two attacks on the airport in two days, which left more than 300 injured, according to Saudi civil aviation authorities. The dead in the first attack included four Saudi citizens and nationals of Bangladesh, Palestine, the United States, Egypt, Jordan, Syria and Sudan.

The airport was struck again on Sunday, the BBC reported. The second strike killed one person and injured 11 others. Saudi Arabia’s civil aviation authority identified the person killed in the second attack as a Pakistani resident.

The Houthis have claimed responsibility for both attacks. The group warned airlines and passengers against using Saudi airports and airspace, saying the attacks were in response to Saudi Arabia’s support for government forces in Yemen’s civil war and an air strike on the airport in Sanaa.
