Synopsis: A 24-year-old man, HIV positive since birth, was arrested in Hyderabad for allegedly injecting his blood into a young woman after their marriage proposal was cancelled. Police say he planned the act for weeks and destroyed evidence. The victim is under treatment, and a case of attempted murder has been registered under the BNS.
A 24-year-old man has been arrested by the Pocharam IT Corridor police in Hyderabad on 14 March after he allegedly injected his HIV-positive blood into a young woman, following her family’s decision to cancel their proposed marriage upon learning of his medical condition.
The accused, K Manohar, a resident of Annojiguda village in Ghatkesar Mandal, Medchal-Malkajgiri district, has been living with HIV since birth. Both his parents were HIV positive, and his father died from related complications approximately two decades ago.
The victim, also a 24 year old woman, is a student and the couple’s families had initially agreed to the marriage. However, the victim’s father grew suspicious about the accused’s health given his parents’ condition and asked him to undergo medical tests. When results confirmed he was HIV positive, the family called off the match around six months ago.
What transpired
On 11 March, at around 5 pm, the victim was alone at home when the accused arrived. As the FIR records, “the accused went there bringing a red-coloured injection and forcibly injected it into the victim.”

The FIR further states that the victim subsequently “revealed that the accused had threatened her and forcibly injected her an injection filled with HIV-infected blood in order to compel her to marry him.”
The victim developed a fever and body pains shortly after. Her father, who had been at the market selling flowers at the time of the incident, rushed her to a hospital in Shanthi Nagar, Uppal, where she is currently being treated. Police said the accused later burned the syringe at a nearby rubbish yard in an attempt to the destroy evidence.
Pocharam IT Corridor Inspector B. Raju said the accused had been planning the act for approximately two weeks, during which time he monitored the movements of the victim and her family.
The victim is being treated at Gandhi Hospital outpatient department of the ART centre and her HIV positivity being ascertained the centre.
Based on a complaint filed by the victim’s father, Pocharam police have registered a case against the accused under Section 109 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), pertaining to attempted murder.
