Fresh concerns over law and order and the alleged influence of land mafias have emerged in Hyderabad following the death of advocate Khaja Moinuddin, who was associated with legal battles to protect Waqf Board lands, after a suspected targeted hit-and-run attack at Masab Tank on Saturday, 23 May.
The incident, which occurred under the limits of the Nampally police station, has triggered outrage among sections of the legal fraternity, with many alleging that the attack was not an accident but a premeditated attempt to eliminate a lawyer who had been challenging alleged encroachments on Waqf properties in courts.
According to the CCTV footage, Moinuddin was hit from behind by a speeding car while he was getting into his vehicle parked outside his residence in the Masab Tank area. The assailants reportedly fled the scene immediately after ramming the vehicle into him.

Locals and passers-by rushed the severely injured advocate, who was found unconscious and bleeding profusely, to a nearby private hospital. Despite treatment, he succumbed to his injuries later in the day.
The CCTV footage, now central to the investigation, is said to show the vehicle deliberately targeting the advocate before fleeing. Police teams are examining footage from nearby junctions and roads to identify the vehicle and trace the route taken by the suspects.
Moinuddin had been actively pursuing legal battles involving alleged illegal occupation of valuable Waqf Board lands in Hyderabad. He had reportedly intervened in several contentious property disputes and argued against alleged encroachers in courts.
His family members and fellow lawyers claimed that he had faced threats in connection with these cases and alleged that vested interests linked to land encroachments could be behind the attack.
The police have registered a case and launched an investigation into the incident.
