Hyderabad petrol pump worker killed

The Cyberabad Police have launched a hunt for three men who allegedly murdered a petrol pump worker at Narsinghi in Hyderabad following a row over the mode of payment — UPI apps such as PayTM and PhonePe — in the early hours of Tuesday, 7 March.

While the deceased has been identified as P Sanjay, the police named the three men on the run as Narender, Mallesh, and Anoop — all residents of the Janwada village in the Shankarpally Mandal of the Rangareddy district.

A purported video of the incident went viral on social media platforms. The CCTV visual showed two men alighting from a car and assaulting two fuel station workers.

In the video of the Hyderabad petrol pump murder, two men could be seen getting out of the car and manhandling two petrol pump workers.

Later, one of the attackers hit on Sanjay’s head, knocking him down.

Hyderabad petrol pump murder: Row over PayTM, PhonePe

The police said the suspects in the Hyderabad petrol pump murder wanted to pay for the fuel through the Unified Payment Interface (UPI) system.

“They wanted to pay through the PayTM or PhonePe apps or using a card. However, the cashier (Sanjay) said that UPI payments were not working and asked for cash, Narsinghi Police Circle Inspector V Shiva Kumar told South First.

“This resulted in an argument and the accused hit the worker. The worker fell immediately. The third accused remained in the car,” the officer added.

The Narsinghi police have registered a case under IPC Section 304 (2) (culpable homicide not amounting to murder).

The deceased’s co-worker, identified by the police as one Chintu, is a witness to the incident.

He could be heard in the video saying: “A car had come in the night for filling petrol. We asked them for money but they demanded to fill the petrol first.”

He claimed that the three men in the car were drunk.

“A person in the car came and hit Sanjay and he fell. I tried to lift him up, and then called my boss and shifted him to the hospital, where he was declared dead,” Chintu said.
