Revanth Reddy assesses rain impact

Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy on Tuesday, 12 August, held a high-level review meeting to assess the rain situation.

“Everyone must stay alert. Continuous monitoring of low-lying areas is essential, and immediate evacuation must be carried out where necessary,” he said.

The Chief Minister directed that all rain-related incidents be reported promptly to control rooms, and ordered the cancellation of leaves for all government employees to ensure round-the-clock availability of staff. Police have been instructed to restrict public access to areas where water levels have crossed danger marks. Additional personnel were set to be deployed across Hyderabad’s three commissionerates to assist with traffic management.

Highlighting the need for extreme weather preparedness, including cloudbursts, the chief minister said the government is ready to release funds for emergency relief measures. He directed electricity department officials to stay on high alert, with mobile transformers and generators on standby. The drainage system is to be monitored closely, and early warnings must be issued in areas expected to receive intense rainfall.

‘Should be ready for worst-case scenarios’

Recalling a past incident in Khammam where 42 cm of rainfall was recorded in just two hours, Revanth Reddy warned that Hyderabad’s existing infrastructure is designed to handle only 2 cm of rain over a 24-hour period. “We must be ready for worst-case scenarios,” he said.

The CM also instructed the Information Department to ensure that accurate updates are disseminated via FM radio and other channels to prevent the spread of misinformation and public panic. Efforts are being made to minimize vehicular movement on city roads, and an emergency toll-free number will be set up for citizens seeking assistance.

“All departments must work in close coordination over the next 72 hours to ensure there is no loss of life or property,” the Chief Minister emphasized.
