Synopsis: Popular Telugu comedian and actor Rahul Ramakrishna’s X account was deactivated after his post criticising Congress and praising BRS went viral. Following the deactivation, people are questioning the reason behind the action, wondering whether the Congress government interfered.

After his pointed messages on X in support of BRS leaders K Chandrashekar Rao and KT Rama Rao exploded across social media on the night of Thursday, 2 October, popular Telugu comedian and actor Rahul Ramakrishna’s account (@eyrahul) disappeared by Friday morning.

The sudden deactivation sparked speculation. Was it a hack? Was it the backlash? Or was it a voluntary step back from a fast-escalating political firestorm? Fans and critics alike dissected the fallout.

The row began late Thursday. Ramakrishna, known for his sharp stand-up comedy and for roles in films like Jaathi Ratnalu, unleashed a string of posts. He said Telangana was going through “terrible times” under the ruling Congress government.

The posts by the actor

One post stood out. Tagging Rama Rao (KTR), he wrote with a Harry Potter twist: “We live in such terrible times. Can’t wait for Dumbledore to come back @KTRBRS. Go ahead, murder me now. I’m sick and tired of things anyway.”

In another, he tagged Chandrashekar Rao (KCR). He warned of “destruction” in the state and implied that the BRS duo needed to return to power. The posts mixed humour with frustration. He flagged crumbling infrastructure, rising divisions, and poor governance. Within hours, the tweets gathered tens of thousands of views, likes, and shares. Opposition supporters cheered him on. Congress loyalists seethed.

The reactions came quickly. For BRS loyalists, the posts felt like an unexpected celebrity endorsement. They celebrated online. They flooded replies with calls for KCR and KTR’s comeback. They saw the comedian’s words as proof of growing anger against Congress. Complaints about floods, unkept job promises, and rising communal tensions were tied to his posts.

Critics hit back. Many from Congress and the BJP camps called the tweets “a publicity stunt.” Others accused him of “desperate attention-seeking.”

One viral thread mocked his Harry Potter reference as “childish whining.” Another dug up his 2023 remark that Mahatma Gandhi was “no saint.” Critics used it to paint him as politically unreliable. “From comedy to conspiracy theories – Rahul’s tweets are as scripted as his films,” scoffed a Congress handle. Quote-tweets turned into a frenzied free-for-all.

By Friday morning, his profile had vanished. In its place was the standard deactivation notice.

Reactions to the deactivation

A user, AR (@ashokReddyNLG), asked: “Warning ichara? Account deactivate chesadu?” (Was a warning given? He deactivated the account). Aegon/Targaryen (@45tillthend) wondered aloud: “Rahul Ramakrishna account deactivated. Em mafia naduputhunnarra @revanth_anumula? (What mafia are you running, @revanth_anumula?)”

The deactivation only deepened the buzz. Was it hacking? Pressure from the government? Or Ramakrishna’s own decision to retreat? No one knew for sure.

BRS leader Konatham Dileep, speaking to South First, pointed out: “Rahul Ramakrishna has gained vast popularity in Telangana. No wonder his messages, tagging KCR to come back and set the house in order, caused such commotion. I don’t think the account was hacked. It is possible he deactivated voluntarily because of the vile trolling that followed.”

“He could have been threatened, or he may simply have decided to step away. His posts drew a huge response from people sympathetic to BRS. But the backlash was equally sharp. That may have pushed him to withdraw,” Dileep said.

This whirlwind — from a viral rallying cry to a sudden digital vanishing act — exemplifies Telangana’s fractious political waters. Whether Rahul Ramakrishna resurfaces with more comedy or more fire remains to be seen.
