Taiwan-based electronics giant Foxconn on Thursday, 2 March, inaugurated T-Works — a state-of-the-art prototyping facility that is supposed to accelerate India’s journey towards becoming a leader in product innovation — in Hyderabad.
The event was attended by Foxconn Chairman and CEO Young Liu along with Telangana IT and Urban Affairs Minister KT Rama Rao.
T-Works is an integrated hardware prototyping centre spread across a 78,000 sq ft building.
Foxconn — the world’s largest maker of Apple products, including the iPhone — will reportedly donate an SMT (Surface Mount Technology) line, used for assembling high-end electronics circuit boards, to T-Works.

T-Works is an initiative by the Telangana government that aims to create a culture of hobbyists, makers, and innovators.
It has a metal shop, electronics lab, laser cutting & engraving, wood shop, advanced rapid prototyping, testing lab, PCB Fab, 3D-printing, and ceramic studio.
Phase 1 of the facility is located on a 4.79-acre campus, which is said to provide over 200 industry-grade tools, worth ₹11.5 crore.
T-Works projects are said to span healthcare, industrial automation, furniture, and UAVs.
KT Rama Rao said on the occasion: “T-Works has developed significant products including ventilators, electric vehicles, and agricultural innovation in collaboration with rural innovators using state-of-the-art equipment.”
About India and Taiwan’s collaboration, the BRS leader said, “IT for me not only stands for information technology but also India and Taiwan. With India’s software prowess and Taiwan’s hardware expertise, we can lead an industrial revolution and enable youngsters to come out with world-class products.”
Foxconn Chairman Young Liu praised the T-Works concept. ”With such a facility, people can do so many things. I am impressed by the speed with which this world-class facility has been built,” he said.
On Foxconn inaugurating facility in Hyderabad, T-Works CEO Sujai Karmapur said, “With a combination of design thinking, engineering, and product discipline, our innovators shall build successful products, and hopefully, by the end of the decade, we will have many product brands coming out of India.”
Meanwhile, the Telangana government Principal Secretary of Industries and IT Jayesh Ranjan noted that over 300 users from startups and corporates have built at T-Works.
