Newly appointed as the national general secretary of the BJP, Karimnagar MP Bandi Sanjay Kumar will formally take charge on Friday, 4 August, at the BJP headquarters in New Delhi after meeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

He is expected to meet Modi at 11 am on 4 August before taking charge. He would later return to Hyderabad on the same day where activists are planning to give him a rousing welcome at Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA) in Shamshabad and a meet and greet meeting at a function hall in Shamshabad.

Union Tourism Minister G Kishan Reddy and other senior leaders will also attend. The central leadership appointed Kishan Reddy as the state BJP president recently replacing Sanjay.

Bandi Sanjay as Telangana BJP chief

During Sanjay’s tenure as the state president, the BJP won two by-elections — in Dubakka and Huzurabad constituencies — and managed to win along with a majority of municipal divisions during the GHMC elections.

Though its candidate Komatireddy Rajagopal Reddy lost the by-election in Munugode, the party improved its vote share compared to the 2018 Assembly elections in Telangana.

But after witnessing drubbing in Karnataka, internal differences suddenly started cropping up leaving the cadre in a confused state.

A few days ago, Sanjay met Union Home Minister Amith Shah in New Delhi, triggering a debate among the cadre on what could have transpired between them.

Though leaders in the party said that Amit Shah and Sanjay discussed the political situation in the state, sources said Sanjay lodged a complaint with him stating that his followers were being sidelined after the recent changes in the state leadership.

Asks to recognise services

He is believed to have requested Amit Shah to render justice to his followers, who worked hard in making his “Praja Sangrama Yatra” and other protests organised during his tenure as the party’s state president in Telangana, a success.

The yatra also galvanised the cadre prompting several leaders from other parties, especially from the Congress to join the BJP.

Most committed leaders even went to jail while fighting against the anti-people policies of the ruling BRS government, he said, adding that some leaders and activists faced torture from the police who booked false cases against them.

It was learnt that Sanjay urged the party’s central leadership to recognise his services rendered to strengthen the BJP on all fronts.

Sources said Amith Shah was believed to have informed Sanjay that the internal matters of the party should not be shared in the public domain.

On Wednesday, the Central leadership refuted rumours that it had released a list of candidates to be contested during the next Assembly elections in Telangana. The party said that no list was prepared till now.
