Followers of former Jubilee Hills MLA P Vishnuvardhan Reddy attacked Gandhi Bhavan, the state Congress headquarters in Nampally, Hyderabad, on Saturday, 28 October, after he was denied a ticket to contest in the upcoming Assembly elections.

The party high command allocated the Jubilee Hills ticket to former India cricket captain and former MP Mohammed Azharuddin. However, Reddy’s sister and corporator P Vijaya Reddy got a Congress ticket from Khairatabad Assembly constituency.

Raising slogans, Reddy’s followers hurled stones at Gandhi Bhavan and demanded that the high command give a ticket to Reddy. The police immediately rushed to the party office to prevent any untoward incident.

Earlier in the day, while interacting with media persons, Reddy made it clear that he would contest the Assembly elections from the Jubilee Hills constituency and he would take a final call after discussing it with the cadre on Sunday.

Sources said he was in touch with the Union Tourism Minister and Telangana BJP state president G Kishan Reddy to contest on their party ticket if the Congress failed to render justice to them.

Reddy unsuccessfully contested the Jubilee Hills constituency in the 2014 and 2018 Assembly elections.

Meanwhile, a group of Congress leaders, especially those from Backward Classes (BC), assembled at a hotel in the city to discuss their future course of action after failing to get the party tickets.

A decision was also taken to lodge a complaint with the high command in New Delhi against the senior party leaders in Gandhi Bhavan for denying tickets to them.

These leaders said that the Congress failed to accord priority to BCs in allocating tickets.
