agitation against Kamareddy master plan

The Joint Action Committee (JAC) of farmers from Kamareddy district on Sunday, 8 January, unanimously demanded that the state government cancel the draft master plan prepared for the development of the town, keeping in view their interests.

The JAC also vowed to continue their struggle till the government conceded to farmers’ demands. They also decided that if the state government fails to come to the rescue of farmers then the JAC would intensify its agitation in the district.

At a meeting conducted in the Kamareddy town on Sunday, hundreds of farmers from seven villages — Adluru Yellareddy, Adluru, Tekrial, Ilbipur, Rameswarapalli, Patarajampet and Lingapur — discussed the action plan to be adopted in future.

The JAC demanded that the government cancel the proposed green, industrial and recreation zones and, at the same time, it must ensure that the roads do not pass through agricultural lands.

The government should give clarity on withdrawing the master plan by issuing a government order, the JAC leaders said, adding that flexes should be affixed in the town informing the people that the master plan was withdrawn.

Protests to continue

The farmers also resolved to submit a memorandum to the 49 municipal councillors in the town, apart from organising a protest in front of the municipal office on 11 January, if the district administration fails to give any clarification on the master plan.

The JAC decided to approach the high court if the state government fails to come to the rescue of the innocent farmers — who are in a state of fear that they would lose their agricultural land to the master plan.

For the last two days, the town has been witnessing a tense situation as irate farmers protested against the master plan in front of the Kamareddy District Collectorate. A farmer and a police constable suffered injuries in the scuffle that took place at the office.

Meanwhile, district Rythu Bandhu president Anji Reddy, interacting with media persons at Banswada on Sunday, alleged that both the BJP and Congress were creating an issue to derive political mileage.
