KTR and Revanth Reddy

Telangana IT and Municipal Administration Minister KT Rama Rao on Sunday, 16 July, demanded that the Congress tender an apology to farmers in Telangana for ignoring their welfare for decades.

Meanwhile, Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) president A Revanth Reddy said the BRS was unnecessarily doing politics with farmers’ issues.

‘Congress failed to supply power’

Interacting with media persons in Jagtial, KTR said the Congress failed to provide power to farmers for at least three hours during their tenure in united Andhra Pradesh.

“Before the formation of separate Telangana, farmers used to maintain a queue, placing their slippers in front of shops selling fertilizers. Irate farmers used to stage protests in front of the office of sub-stations demanding supply of power continuously in summer,” he said.

He sought to know why senior Congress leaders like MP N Uttam Kumar Reddy, MLA D Sridhar Babu and MLC T Jeevan Reddy were not responding to the remarks made by Revanth Reddy on the free power supply issue.

Requesting the people not to believe in the assurances given by the Congress, Rama Rao said Congress leader Rahul Gandhi didn’t know about ox and rice but only about pubs and clubs.

Referring to allegations that a ₹1 lakh crore scam took place under the BRS rule, he asked how there could be ₹1 lakh crore when the cost of the irrigation project was only ₹80,000 crore.

Resolutions to be passed

Stating that the Congress was a vultures’ party, Rama Rao said the peasants should not listen to the assurances of Congress leaders who created several problems for them.

He said resolutions would be passed at Rythu Vedikas across the state that no one should support the Congress.

At a separate meeting, Finance Minister T Harish Rao said the condition of the Congress has become a stone in the hands of the madman, while indirectly referring to Revanth Reddy, who said three hours of electricity per acre was enough.

Revanth Reddy has become the real successor of TDP national president and former Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, who said that agriculture is sheer waste, Harish Rao added.

“The society of Telangana should think about whether the power supply was better under the Congress rule or the BRS rule. The BRS government is enabling farmers to grow excellent crops by supplying 24-hour quality power supply,” he said.

‘Congress was against free power’

He stated that the former PCC president Ponnala Lakshmaiah was unable to give even three hours of power to his village when he was energy minister in the erstwhile united Andhra Pradesh.

Harish Rao said the Congress was completely against free power to farmers since the beginning and it was the Congress that merged the princely state of Hyderabad with Andhra Pradesh.

The same Congress came up with the construction of the Polavaram project, ignoring the interests of people in the state.

Under the leadership of Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao, the state was witnessing massive development in all sectors, he said.

Harish Rao said the chief minister would win elections wherever he contests, including Siddipet, Mahbubnagar, Karimnagar, Medak and Gajwel, and there should not be any doubt of it.

No one can compete with the chief minister, he said.

‘Prepare action plan against KCR’

In an open letter written to the Congress cadre, Revanth Reddy called upon them to prepare an action plan against Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao’s anti-farmer policies.

He alleged that the BRS, which kept the ‘Rythu Vedikas’ like an ornament during all these days, has now decided to use them as a political platform to criticise the Congress.

Alleging that Chandrashekar Rao created a record in deceiving farmers, he asked the cadre to question BRS leaders at ‘Rythu Vedikas’ about when would the state government waive the crop loans and when would the amount of the paddy procured from the farmers be credited into their accounts.

Stating that the farmers have been waiting with the hope that the state government would waive the crop loan, he said, “It is now clear that the BRS government would not waive the crop loan as the final budget was also introduced.”

He said as many as 31 lakh farmers were eligible for crop loan waivers.

‘BRS government cheated farmers’

The state government, which was supposed to waive loans amounting ₹20,000 crore, cheated the farmers by failing to fulfil its promise.

Believing in the promise given by Chandrashekar Rao, several farmers incurred debts.

“As they failed to clear the debts, most farmers ended their lives. The instructions to credit the amount into farmers’ accounts within 48 hours after procuring paddy from them were confined to papers only, ” Reddy alleged.

He said about ₹6,800 crore outstanding dues were pending till 15 June.

Alleging that the state government forcibly took lakhs of acres of assigned lands from innocent people in the last nine years, he said it was unable to give lands to Dalits and tribals.

‘KCR doing gimmicks’

As elections were fast approaching, Chandrashekhar Rao was doing gimmicks to give pattas to podu lands to tribals, he said.

It has been found that 11.50 lakh tribals are eligible for pattas for podu lands across the state but pattas were given to only four lakh tribals, Reddy said alleging that the state government deceived farmers by failing to supply fertilizers free of cost.

“The BRS government promised to supply free power for 24 hours but it is supplying only for 10 hours and the log books maintained in substations were evident for it. The government was shocked when the Congress disclosed the evidence,” he said.
