Fake vs Original: BRS social media convenor Manne Krishank denied bail in OU notice case

BRS social media convenor Manne Krishank was not granted bail by Nampally Court on Thursday, 2 May. He was arrested by the East Zone of Hyderabad City Police in an alleged forgery case.

He was taken into custody at the Panthangi tollgate while travelling from Kothagudem to Hyderabad on 1 May. Later, he was brought to the judge’s house by 11 pm in Hyderabad.

The police presented Krishank’s pending case and also mentioned that he could tamper with the evidence if not remanded.

Krishank was then shifted to the Chanchalguda Jail late that night. He has been booked under Sections 466, 468, 469, and 505 (1) (c) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

The fake notice

The issue started when a group of students staying at the Osmania University (OU) campus hostels began protesting for water for both drinking and general usage.

Then on 18 April, a circular was widely shared stating that summer vaccination would be from 1 May to 31 May.

The notice also addressed another issue. Due to severe summer weather, there was a shortage of water and electricity in the hostels, and the boarders were requested to cooperate.

On 29 April, the OU registrar issued a show-cause notice to the chief warden of hostels and messes, stating that the problems of water and electricity were misleading, and asked for an explanation.

However, the whole issue of fake documents started when Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy posted a notice — ostensibly from the chief warden — on 30 April saying that there were problems during former chief minister K Chandrashekar Rao’s government in 2023 and OU struggled with water and electricity issues back then as well.

Later, Krishank Manne posted on his account on X (formerly Twitter) that the original notice of the chief warden belonging to 2023 was far different from what the chief minister had posted, and therefore it was a fake notice.

BRS leaders bat for Krishank

BRS leader Dr Sravan Dasoju who was also a Member of the Telangana Legislative Council, told South First, “It is a malicious case. We will bring Krishank back from jail.”

He added: “The evidence is right among all of us. Osmania University’s chief warden’s letter is out, and registrar also issued a show-cause notice. We have been arguing that the original notice was posted by BRS and not the chief minister. He will be proven guilty.”

BRS Legal Cell member Lalitha Reddy told South First, “Police registered a case at 4.45 pm on 30 April. They immediately started to search for Krishank and followed his route.”

She added: “He was picked up the next day, and taken to the judge’s house in Hyderabad late at night after hours of questioning. We were all present there.”

Lalitha Reddy continued: “Police informed the judge that Krishank should be remanded because he has pending cases, and he may create rivalries among political parties as a young, active social media user.”

She added: “Since he has ties with Osmania University, they argued that he could tamper with evidence. Our point was that the pending cases are less than seven years old. So, a notice could be issued to him. However, the judge decided to remand Krishank, stating that he would hear arguments on 2 May.”

She also said: “Krishank is not involved in making any fake notice and we will fight it. The arguments were posted today. It will heard on Friday.”
