A five-year-old boy was allegedly strangled to death by his father at their home in Hyderabad’s Borabanda area on Sunday night, 1 November.

The accused, aged 36, was reportedly drunk at the time and has been absconding since the incident came to light.

Vidyasagar, the accused, is said to have attacked his son, Vijay, inside their house around 10 pm on Sunday when the boy’s mother, Durga, was away from home as part of her catering work.

Durga came home early on Monday, 2 November, and found her son dead. She told the neighbours, who in turn alerted the police. By then, the boy’s body had been lying at home for several hours.

Borabanda police reached the spot and inspected the scene, but Vidyasagar reportedly fled as soon as he realised that the police had been informed. Investigators are looking into the sequence of events that led to the tragedy.

Police said an FIR has been registered under Section 103(1) of the BNSS at the Borabanda Police Station.

A search is on for the accused.
