Synopsis: The victims had embarked on the pilgrimage through the same travel agency. They were returning to Madinah in the Hejaz region of western Saudi Arabia from Mecca after completing the rituals when the accident occurred. Most of them were asleep when the bus crashed.
At least 42 Umrah pilgrims from India are feared killed after a bus they were travelling in from Mecca to Madinah caught fire after colliding with a diesel tanker early on Monday, 17 November.
Initial reports said around 2o women and 11 children were from Hyderabad, Telangana.
At least 16 of them were from Mallepally Bazaar Ghat in the state capital. They have been identified as Rahimunnisa, Rahmat Bi, Shehnaaz Begum, Ghausia Begum, Qadir Mohammad, Mohammad Maulana, Shoaib Mohammad, Sohail Mohammad, Mastan Mohammad, Parveen Mohammad, Zakia Mohammad, Shaukat Mohammad, Farheen Mohammad, Zaheen Mohammad, Mohammad Sanjeev, and Mohammad Ali.
The bodies have been shifted to the morgues in King Fahad Hospital, Miqat Hospital and King Salman Hospital, where post-mortem procedures were underway.
According to the information received, the victims had embarked on the pilgrimage through the same travel agency. They were returning to Madinah in the Hejaz region of western Saudi Arabia from Mecca after completing the rituals when the accident occurred around 11 pm, Saudi time (IST 1:30 am). Most of them were asleep when the bus crashed.
The Telangana Hajj Committee told South First that a control room has been set up at the Hajj House.
They were trying to get the details of the pilgrims from the Indian Embassy and the consulate in Saudi Arabia.
“As of now, Hajj House does not have any details of the deceased, will provide the information as it comes to them,” they said.
Officials said a special control room has been set up at the state secretariat to coordinate information and support related to the tragedy. The control room will serve as the primary point of contact for families seeking updates or assistance.

The Consulate General of India in Jeddah has set up a 24×7 control room, with the toll-free number 8002440003.

The Indian Consulate in Jeddah and the Embassy in Riyadh were in touch with the Saudi Hajj and Umrah ministry, and the Umrah operators concerned.
Indian officials and community volunteers were on the ground, at various hospitals and sites.

The Telangana Bhavan in New Delhi said senior officials were liaising with the Indian Embassy in Riyadh.
“Efforts are underway to ascertain the full details of the accident and confirm how many individuals from Telangana were involved,” it said in a statement.

Expressing deep shock at the accident, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar said that the Indian Embassy in Riyadh and the Consulate in Jeddah were providing full support to the affected nationals and their families.

Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy expressed shock after learning that several people from the state were among those killed in the horrific road accident.
Following the chief minister’s directions, Chief Secretary K Ramakrishna Rao spoke to the Resident Commissioner in New Delhi and officials of the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) to gather detailed information about the deceased and ensure immediate assistance for their families.

Earlier, Kerala Hajj Committee chief Dr Hussain Saquafi Chullikkod told South First that the identities of the victims were yet to be confirmed. All Hajj committees were coordinating to gather details and had requested intervention from the MEA.
Authorities were verifying casualties and conducting rescue operations.
