Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister and the state’s Congress chief DK Shivakumar on Saturday, 28 October, dared Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao to visit his state and check how all the poll guarantees of the Congress were being implemented.

The Congress, in the run-up to the Karnataka Assembly elections, which were held in May, made five poll promises to the electorate, which is widely believed to have helped it defeat the incumbent BJP in the state.

It may be noted that the Congress has made not five but six poll guarantees in Telangana in the run-up to the 30 November Assembly elections.

‘Let him visit Karnataka’

Shivakumar’s remarks seem to show that he has apparently been rattled by the BRS’ campaign that if people in Telangana voted for the Congress, they would be inviting disaster, as was the case in Karnataka.

Shivakumar, who took part in the Congress’ second leg of campaigning for the Telangana Assembly elections, which began in Tandur, said: “If KCR has any doubts, let him visit Karnataka and see for himself how well the Congress is implementing its guarantees.”

He demanded to know if KCR had implemented any of his promises during the last 10 years.

“In Karnataka, we began implementing all the guarantees from the very first day of assuming power,” he said, besides taunting KCR to talk to the relatives of Telangana residents in Karnataka to “find out the truth”.

The Karnataka deputy chief minister said that he would arrange for buses for KCR, his son KT Rama Rao, and other Telangana ministers to go find out the truth.

“Let us talk to farmers in Telangana and then those in Karnataka. In Telangana, farmers are saying that the BRS government was not keeping its promises while in Karnataka, we are implementing all the guarantees,” he said.

Shivakumar said that in Karnataka, 200 units of power were being supplied free to all households, ₹2,000 was being paid to 1.1 crore women under Gruha Lakshmi, and 10 kg of superfine rice was being distributed to the poor free of cost.

Only Cong thinking of welfare: DKS

He said no one needed to doubt the Congress capturing power in the elections in Telangana.

“The Congress will form the government on 9 December, and it will start implementing the six guarantees given to the people,” he said.

He claimed that only the Congress was thinking of the welfare of the poor, and that was why it was confident of coming to power in Telangana.

The Karnataka Congress leader told the people that it was time for them to show their gratitude to Sonia Gandhi for gifting the state of Telangana to them. “If the Congress makes any promise, it always implements it, no matter what,” he said.

He claimed that the party was committed to providing ₹15,000 per acre per year to all the farmers under Rythu Bharosa, ₹4,000 as pension to senior citizens and widows, ₹5 lakh for the construction of Indiramma houses, and ₹5 lakh to the youth under Yuva Vikasaam.

“After 9 December, KCR will have to retire to a farmhouse,” he said, mentioning the date of counting of votes.

TPCC president A Revanth Reddy said the day was not far when people would excommunicate the BRS, considering it a pariah organisation.

Caught unawares, KCR was making baseless allegations against him, said Shivakumar.

“We will make KCR regurgitate the pelf he has swallowed during the last two years. We will not let him be even after he loses the elections. Do you think we will let him to go the farmhouse and rest?” he said.
