Former chief minister of Madhya Pradesh Digvijaya Singh on Friday, 23 December, lashed out at Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao for turning against the Congress after it delivered a separate Telangana state in 2014.
Speaking to media persons at Gandhi Bhavan in Hyderabad, he said, “It was the Congress which kept the promise in 2014 which it made in 2004. Definitely, it was not the TRS (now BRS) which could get the Telangana state. It just had two MPs in the Lok Sabha at that time. How could it deliver Telangana with two MPs?” he asked.
Digvijaya Singh said that KCR, ever since, had been trying to harm the Congress by spiriting away it MLAs.
KCR and BJP are on the same page and their tactics are the same in engineering defections, first persuasion and if does not work, then intimidation, he said.
They use the investigation agencies to harass those who do not fall in line, he said, adding that under BRS in the state and BJP at the national level, corruption at high places had become rampant.
The AICC leader said that both the BRS and the BJP are two sides of the same coin while appearing to be at loggerheads.
“In Parliament, BRS supports all legislation that the BJP brings in, but outside they fight as though they are arch enemies,” he said, and alleged that KCR had rebranded TRS as BRS only to help the BJP gain electorally.
Taking a dig at AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi, Digvijaya Singh appealed to him to eschew contesting in constituencies where his party had no presence since it would help the BJP win them. As he has been doing this on a regular basis, it makes one wonder if he was trying to help the BJP, he said.
He also wanted him to fight for 12 percent reservations for the Muslims.
It was the late YS Rajasekahr Reddy who brought in four percent reservation for the Muslims which had later come down to three percent.
KCR had promised 12 percent reservation and Owaisi should raise his voice against the delay.
Digvijaya Singh expressed doubt whether he would, as he has to run his shop which is not possible without KCR’s help.
