Decency is going for a toss in public life. The choice of words used in verbal duels between leaders of political parties is descending to despicable depths of depravity.

A Revanth Reddy, who often forgets that he is the chief minister of Telangana, becomes very irritable and goes off the tangent even at the slightest provocation.

He lets out a torrent of invective against former chief minister K Chandrashekar Rao (KCR) and former minister KT Rama Rao (KTR), who are his favourite whipping boys.

Slams KCR and KTR

He gave into his weakness once again on Tuesday, 20 August, after paying tributes to former prime minister late Rajiv Gandhi at his statute in Somajiguda in Hyderabad on his 80th birth anniversary.

He called KCR an inveterate alcoholic and termed KCR and his son KTR plunderers of Telangana and encroachers of hundreds of acres of land for the construction of farmhouses.

He called them “wayward asinine species” and added that their very appearance in public would convert the youths into soaks and robbers.

Taking serious exception to the tone and tenor of the chief minister’s address, KTR in a post on X said: “Mark my words Cheap Minister Revanth. We will clear out the trash from the surroundings of Dr. B. R. Ambedkar secretariat the very same day we are back in office. Can’t expect a Delhi Ghulam like you to ever understand self-respect & pride of Telangana. Using filthy language in front of school children shows your lousy thinking & uncouth upbringing. Wish you speedy healing from your mental sickness.”

KTR’s statement

The provocation for Revanth Reddy’s outburst was KTR saying that after returning to power, the BRS would remove the Rajiv Gadhi statue coming up in front of the state Secretariat.

He had said that Rajiv Gandhi had no relevance to Telangana and when the BRS was in power, it earmarked the place for the erection of Telangana Thalli statue.

Cut to the quick with KTR’s comments, Revanth Reddy burst out at him and KCR in his inimitable style and heaped abuses on them. He said he came to know that KTR wanted to set up his father KCR’s statue and that was the reason why he was saying that they would remove Rajiv Gandhi’s statue.

“I came to know that KTR wanted to set up his father’s statute there. But when would his father die and when would he instal his statue? In the first place, KCR and KTR are living in a delusion that they will return to power. It is all over for them. They cannot even think of coming to power even in their wildest dreams,” Revanth Reddy said and recalled the ignominious defeat the BRS had suffered in the recent Assembly and Lok Sabha elections.

‘Belongs to family of sacrifices’

The chief minister said that setting up Rajiv Gandhi’s statue is very appropriate since he belonged to a family of sacrifices.

“Indira Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi gave their life for the protection of the unity and integrity of the country. It would be in the fitness of things if Rajiv Gandhi’s statue came up there. But KTR wants his father’s statute there. Why should there be a statue of one who wallows in his farmhouse day and night, fully drunk? What kind of message are you sending the people?” he asked.

The chief minister recalled how Rajiv Gandhi introduced computers and telecommunication to the nation in the 1980s which created countless employment opportunities for the youth.

“However, these nincompoops (sannasulu) want to erect KCR’s statute here. They had plundered the state in the garb of the Telangana movement, minted thousands of crores of money, occupied hundreds of acres of lands and built farmhouses in them,” Revanth Reddy said.

“Though they had lost the recent Assembly and Lok Sabha elections, they seem to be suffering from a bloated sense of ego. But our Congress workers are ready to relieve you of the hubris that has come to characterise the father and the son,” he added.

Dares KCR and KTR to remove the statue

Revanth Reddy dared KCR and KTR to touch the Rajiv Gandhi statue and see what would happen.

“If you touch the statue, I am guaranteeing you that you will be beaten up with chappals. Our mass leader Jagga Reddy is here. Try to remove Rajiv’s statue and see what Jagga Reddy would do,” he said adding they would have to flee to Chintamadaka (KCR’s native village in the Medak district).

“If they stay here, they would be reduced to chintapandu (tamarind pulp),” he said and wondered “what these asinine leaders” were doing during the last nine years without setting up the statue of Telangana Thalli in front of the Secretariat.

He said there was no question of allowing setting up KCR’s statue in front of the Secretariat as he did not want the youth to take inspiration from KCR and “become dacoits and drunkards.”

He said that very soon, the Rajiv Gandhi statue would be unveiled in front of the Secretariat and there would be a huge public meeting to celebrate the occasion.

“We want to have Rajiv Gandhi’s statue unveiled today but deferred it is still in the last stages of completion,” the chief minister said.

He announced that he and Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramraka would set up the Telangana Thalli statue inside the Secretariat on 9 December.

He said it was on this day in 2009 that the UPA-II led by Sonia Gandhi announced the beginning of the process for the creation of Telangana state.
