Malkajgiri BRS MLA Mynampalli Hanumantha Rao seems to be in no mood for a compromise.

After his outburst against Telangana Finance Minister T Harish Rao over denying his son Mynampalli Rohit the party ticket to contest from the Medak Assembly, the defiant leader said he would decide on his future course of action in a week.

Speaking to reporters at his Dulapalli residence after conferring with his supporters on Saturday, 26 August, he said that it was not in his blood to unnecessarily accuse anyone, but he would not remain quiet if anyone took a swipe at him.

“There will be an equal and opposite reaction to every action,” he said.

Hanumantha Rao said that he would interact with the people and his supporters in both Malkajgiri and Medak constituencies, which may take about a week.

“After talking to them, I will announce my future course of action,” he said, adding that a BRS leader had spoken to him to remain calm without further complicating the issue.

His meeting with party workers assumed significance in the wake of the BRS leadership reportedly contemplating initiating action against him for his unwarranted comments against Harish Rao.

BRS leaders rap Hanumantha Rao

BRS working president KT Rama Rao, who is away in the US, reacted sharply to Hamumantha Rao’s outburst while BRS MLC K Kavitha, too, disapproved of his intemperate behaviour.

Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao also expressed annoyance at Hanumantha Rao for going public with a statement that he would not contest if his son was not allotted the Medak seat. KCR said it was up to Hanumantha Rao to contest or not.

KCR also warned that he would throw out anyone speaking or acting against the party’s interests.

With several BRS leaders closing ranks against Hanumantha Rao, there was speculation that the party might replace him with another candidate in Malkajgiri. The BRS has named sitting MLA T Padma Devender Reddy as its candidate in Medak.

There was a buzz in the BRS camp that the party leadership was considering fielding Labour Minister Ch Malla Reddy’s son-in-law Marri Rajasekhar Reddy from Malkajgiri, among others.

Hanumantha Rao convened a meeting of his supporters and party workers at his residence against this backdrop, and discussed the recent developments and sought their opinion.

The MLA created a sensation when he came down on Harish Rao for his attempts at one-upmanship in Medak on Monday, the day on which KCR announced the candidates.

Hanumantha Rao advised Harish Rao to remember his past and wanted to know why he had not developed Medak the way he backed Siddipet. He also vowed to teach Harish Rao a lesson.
