A house belonging to a Dalit family in Repally village of Gadwal mandal, Jogulamba Gadwal district, was allegedly demolished with a tractor on Thursday, September 10, a day after a 22-year-old man from the family married a woman from the BC community.
According to the FIR registered at Gadwal Rural police station, Rangamuni, one of the three sons of Chinna Kistanna alias Adamu, belongs to the Scheduled Caste Madiga community.
He has been in a relationship with 19-year-old Eeneshwari from the same village, who belongs to the Boya community. The couple reportedly got married in Hyderabad on September 9, of their own free will.
On learning of the wedding, Eeneshwari’s parents and relatives travelled to the city the next day to hold a panchayat over the match. Kistanna was also in Hyderabad at the time, as he had gone to meet his sons residing and working there.
That same afternoon, six men identified as the woman’s relatives, along with others, allegedly reached Kistanna’s house in the village, driving a blue Sonalika DI 42 RX tractor, and rammed it into the structure, causing extensive damage, police said.
The six men have been identified as Parusha s/o Chinna Govindudu, Venkatesh, Parusha s/o Pedda Govindu, Ramanjaneyulu, Gopal, and Thimmanna.
Chinna Kistanna’s brother, Chinna Gopal, who filed the complaint, alerted the Gadwal Rural police soon after, and officers reached the spot to record his statement that same night.
A case has been registered under Sections 329(4) and 324(5), read with Section 3(5), of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, which deal with house trespass, mischief causing substantial loss, and joint liability for common intention. The FIR also invoked Section 3(1)(g) of the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act.
The case adds to the incidents of discrimination and violence against Dalits in Telangana.
