Couple die in Hyderabad as Deepavali crackers catch fire at home

Fire accident in Yakathpura, Hyderabad

A husband-wife duo died in a fire accident caused due to Deepavali crackers in the old city part of Hyderabad on the night of Monday, 28 October.

According to reports, the couple, who also owned a crackers shop, have taken a significant amount of crackers back home for Deepavali, which is on Thursday, 31 October.

Another girl staying in the house has also sustained third-degree burns and is under treatment at a hospital.

The incident occurred when the wife was making sweets for Deepavali and the sparks from the stove fell on crackers and ignited them.

Fire tenders were rushed to the spot and doused flames. Reinbazar police are investigating the explosion.

According to the news agency ANI, the couple have been identified as Usharani (50) and her husband Mohan Lal (58).

However, this is not an isolated incident, as Deepavali is nearing, there have been numerous incidents of fire accidents in various parts of the city and country.

On Sunday, 27 October, a massive fire erupted at Paras Fireworks Shop near Boggulakunte in Abids, Hyderabad, causing widespread panic.

The fire, which triggered the sudden bursting of crackers, injured one woman and created chaos among those shopping for Deepawali in the area.

Four fire engines were deployed to combat the flames, with three arriving promptly after the blaze started.
