The Congress and the Telangana Jana Samithi (TJS) headed by Professor M Kondandaram — a key figure in the movement for a separate state — will work together to oust the BRS from power, the party’s state unit president A Revanth Reddy said in Hyderabad on Monday, 30 October.

Speaking to media persons after meeting Kodandaram at his office along with Congress Telangana affairs in-charge Manickrao Thakre, Revanth Reddy said the TJS leader has expressed willingness to support the Congress in the upcoming Assembly elections.

He added that the TJS would not contest the 30 November polls.

On high command’s instructions

Revanth Reddy held discussions with Kodandaram following directions from the high command to seek his support to get rid of the BRS government. He said the Congress would move forward together with the TJS to form a people’s government in the state.

Stating that the agenda of both parties was to defeat the BRS in the coming elections, Revanth Reddy said a committee would be set up to ensure proper coordination between the two parties during the elections.

After the Congress assumed power, the TJS would be merged with it, and the committee — which would be set up soon — would play a crucial role in the merger process, he said.

A former professor of Political Science at Osmania University, Kodandaram was chairman of all-party Telangana Joint Action Committee (T-JAC), which led the movement for a separate Telangana from 2009.

He officially launched the TJS on 29 April, 2018, at a public meeting in Hyderabad with the avowed aim to change governance in the state, instead of merely changing the people who govern.

‘BRS tapping Opposition leaders’ phones’

Reminding that Kodandaram was fighting against the misdeeds of the BRS government for the past 10 years, Revanth Reddy said the Congress’s main objective was to save the people of Telangana from the clutches of Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao’s family.

The TJS’s role would be crucial in the government formation, he added.

“More than seats and votes, we are together fighting for a common goal of defeating BRS,” Revanth Reddy said, emphasising the importance of unseating the rule of Chandrashekar Rao. He added that the Congress government would act against the private army of Chandrashekhar Rao.

Revanth Reddy took the occasion to alleged that the ruling party was tapping the phones of Opposition leaders with the assistance of hackers.

The BRS was trying to hamper the Congress’s winning prospects in the elections. He alleged the BRS working president, KT Rama Rao was threatening people, asking them not to help the Congress.

The BRS would certainly pay the price for what they were doing, he warned.
