BJP MLA Eatala Rajender travelled to Delhi and talked to the central leadership about steps to prepare the party for the Telangana elections.
The victory of the Congress in the Karnataka Assembly elections has cast a shadow on the BJP’s Telangana unit, with various leaders complaining to the party’s high command over its inability to cash in on anti-incumbency against the BRS government in the state.
Former minister and BJP MLA Eatala Rajender travelled to New Delhi a few days ago and held discussions with the central leadership on the measures to be taken to prepare the party for the upcoming Assembly elections.
A day after Rajender returned to the city from New Delhi, state party president Bandi Sanjay Kumar travelled to the national capital on Friday, 19 May.
Though party sources said that Sanjay went to Delhi for personal work, it has been learnt that he would likely be meeting the senior leaders and explaining the political situation in Telangana.
While interacting with a vernacular news channel in New Delhi, former MP and BJP leader Konda Vishweshwar Reddy said that more efforts should be made to fight the BRS, apart from making certain changes within the party to give due recognition to leaders.
Leaders have to gear up to put up a united fight against the BRS, he said.
Asked about the changes to be made in the party, Reddy replied that changes should be brought in to intensify the efforts to dethrone the BRS government.
Reddy said that many felt that the party was unable to cash in on the anti-incumbency factor against the BRS government. People were allegedly doubtful whether the BJP was serious about fighting against the BRS.
Several BJP leaders said that BRS MLC K Kavitha would be arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) for her alleged involvement in the Delhi liquor scam, he noted.
But, so far, the ED has not arrested her. People would become more confident of the BJP only if it took concrete action, including action against Kavitha, Reddy said.
On 19 May, Bandi Sanjay criticised the BRS government for failing to protect assigned lands belonging to Dalits and tribals.
In a letter to Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao, he accused the BRS government of paving the way for real-estate businesses by failing to protect the assigned lands and affecting the livelihood of poor people.
He alleged that the chief minister forgot to implement the promise of giving three acres of land to Dalits.
