The BJP is responsible for the Election Commission of India (ECI) temporarily halting the disbursement of the Rythu Bharosa benefits to farmers, Telangana Excise and Prohibition Minister Jupally Krishna Rao alleged on Tuesday, 7 May.

Incidentally, the Congress had lodged a complaint against Rythu Bharosa payout by the then BRS government ahead of the November elections to the state Assembly.

The ECI then also asked the then government to defer remitting money to farmers’ accounts till the expiry of the Model Code of Conduct period.

Now, the ECI has given similar instructions to the A Revanth Reddy dispensation, drawing protests from the Congress.

Same issue, different ‘villain’

If the BRS had tried to project the Congress as the villain earlier, now it is the Congress which is trying to show the BJP responsible for the suspension of the crediting of the money into the farmers’ accounts.

Krishna Rao said the complaint to the ECI against crediting of Rythu Bharosa amount to farmers’ accounts exposed the cruel and insensitive BJP. “It was like snatching the food right from the hands of the farmers,” he said.

He said that when the Congress government had made all the arrangements to credit Rythu Bharosa money into the farmers ‘accounts, the BJP put its foot down, knowing well that the farmers would be put to inconvenience.

“The BJP had played the role of Saindhava in epic Mahabharata, in this case,” he said.

He appealed to farmers to see through the BJP’s gameplan and be alert and wise to identify chalk from cheese and vote for Congress candidates.

Krishna Rao said that both BJP and BRS leaders had conspired against the attempts of the government to release the Rythu Bharosa money. The two parties had stooped to the level of harming the interests of the farmers to subserve their electoral interests, he said.

The minister appealed to the ECI to withdraw the order and allow crediting of money to the farmers’ bank accounts, considering their urgent need for capital.
