Cold wave grips Telangana as temperatures drop to single digits in several places

With the advent of the Winter season in Telangana, several areas in the state, including parts of Hyderabad, are having cold wave conditions and recorded single-digit temperatures on Monday, 17 November.

On Monday, Sirpur in Kumuram Bheem Asifabad district recorded the lowest minimum temperature in the state at 7℃. The lowest minimum temperature recorded in the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) limits was 8.8°C, at the University of Hyderabad (Rangareddy district).

Further, according to the Telangana Development Planning Society, the state will continue to witness very low temperatures on Tuesday and Wednesday as well.

Cold wave conditions are likely

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), cold wave conditions are likely to prevail over isolated parts of Telangana on Tuesday and Wednesday.

The Telangana Development Planning Society has issued a forecast that cold wave-like conditions are likely to prevail across Telangana at least until Thursday.

The Regional Meteorological Centre of the IMD in Hyderabad said severe cold wave conditions prevailed at isolated pockets in Adilabad district, and cold wave conditions prevailed at isolated pockets in Sangareddy district of Telangana.

It added that minimum temperatures are likely to be below normal by 4°C to 5°C in isolated pockets over Telangana during the next couple of days.

IMD issued yellow warnings and said cold wave conditions are very likely to prevail in isolated pockets in Adilabad, Komuram Bheem Asifabad, Nirmal, Sangareddy, Medak, and Kamareddy districts on Tuesday and in Adilabad, Komuram Bheem Asifabad, Nirmal, Sangareddy and Medak districts on Wednesday.

Hyderabad is predicted to have a partly cloudy sky with mist/hazy conditions during morning hours. IMD said minimum temperatures in Hyderabad are likely to be below normal by 2°C to 3°C during the next couple of days.
