Charu Sinha joins as CRPF IGP of the Southern Sector in Hyderabad

The first woman to be the IGP (Southern Sector), Charu Sinha was also the first woman IG to command CRPF Bihar for anti-Naxal operations.

Charu Sinha, an IPS officer of the 1996 batch from the Telangana cadre, joined as inspector general of police (IGP) in the Southern Sector of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), at Jubilee Hills in Hyderabad on Thursday, 2 February.

She took over from Mahesh Chandra Laddha, an IPS officer who has been posted to CRPF Jammu Sector.

She will be the first woman officer to hold the post of the IGP (Southern Sector).

She earlier served as the IGP in the terror-infested Jammu sector for around a year before being posted to the Srinagar Sector for more than two and a half years.

In essence, she served in Jammu and Kashmir for over three and a half years.

Charu Sinha was also the first woman CRPF IG to command CRPF Bihar for anti-Naxal operations. Prior to being deputed to the CRPF, she handled different positions in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh.

She was posted as the Superintendent of Police (SP) of the Prakasam, Nizamabad, Mehbubnagar, Chittoor, and East Godavari districts, and in the Intelligence security wing.

She went to the United Nations Mission in Kosovo on deputation for peacekeeping in an area torn by conflict between Albanian Muslims and Christian Serbs wherein she handled the Professional services unit.

She graduated in English literature, history and political science from St Francis College for Women in Hyderabad, and completed her postgraduation in political science from Hyderabad Central University.

She has also served as the Director of the Anti-Corruption Bureau in Telangana, and as DIG for the Anantapur range, consisting of the Anantapur, Chittoor and Tirupati districts in united Andhra Pradesh, handling extremely violent faction feuds, communalism, and other issues in the region.
