One of the accused in the Cash for MLAs case, Dr Jaggu Swamy of Kerala, has filed a petition in the Telangana High Court stating that he had nothing to do with the case and that he has been framed in it.

Dr Kottilil Narayan Jagu alias Jaggu Swamy is a doctor with the Amrita Institute of Medical Sciences in Kochi. The Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing the Cash for MLAs case has issued a lookout notice against him after he failed to appear before it as directed in a notice issued under section 41(A) of CrPC.

Jaggu Swamy has remained untraced ever since.

In the petition, he asked the court to quash both the notices issued under section 41(a) of CrPC and the lookout circular (LOC) issued in his name.

The petition may come up for hearing on Monday, 5 December.

The notice had said that Jaggu Swamy was wanted in the case (FIR 455/2022) under sections 120B, 171B, read with 171E, 506 read with 34 IPC, and section 8 of the Prevention of Corruption Act.

The notice was issued after the police failed to trace him despite their best efforts.

A police team visited Jaggu Swamy’s quarters and searched his office and seized some documents from there. He has been named accused number six in the case.

The police team questioned three of Jaggu Swamy’s associates who have since sought anticipatory bail in the Kerala High Court.

Jaggu Swamy, a mediator?

The SIT believes that Jaggy Swamy  acted as a mediator between BDJS president Thushar Vellappally and Faridabad priest Ramachandra Bharathi in planning to solicit TRS MLAs to join the BJP for pecuniary consideration.

The notice asked all police in all states to disseminate the information that Jaggu Swamy is wanted and sought any information relating to them or any clues they may come to know about him.

Meanwhile, hotelier Nanda Kumar, who is one of the accused in the case, secured bail from the Nampally court in the case relating to subleasing a parcel of land in Film Nagar, which he took on lease from a person for setting up the Deccan Kitchen restaurant.

He was charged with cheating a person of ₹70 lakh in the case.

The court said he could avail bail by giving a guarantee for ₹10,000 and surety by two persons.

He has already got bail in the MLAs poaching case but there is no way he could be released from jail as he is involved in cases registered in Banjara Hills police station.

There are five cases registered against him of which he obtained bail in two cases.
