Telangana is charting a greener path in urban development, with a strong push for eco-friendly construction practices. At the national conference on “Next-Gen High-Rise Buildings” held in Hyderabad, Minister for IT and Industries Duddilla Sridhar Babu emphasised the urgent need to adopt sustainable construction methods to combat climate change and urban pollution.
Highlighting the sector’s 11.97% growth and its ₹80,000 crore contribution to the state economy, the Minister called for a shift from traditional RCC structures to composite and steel alternatives.
These modern materials, he noted, can cut construction time by 40%, reduce weight by 30%, and minimise pollution, making them ideal for Hyderabad’s fast-growing skyline, which already features over 200 buildings taller than 100 meters.
He also spotlighted Telangana’s broader goals, including the distribution of 500,000 Indiramma houses and the integration of emerging technologies like AI through the ‘Build Now’ portal. Plans to collaborate with BIS for national building codes were also announced.
Urging young civil engineers to think innovatively, Sridhar Babu reaffirmed the state’s commitment to sustainable, resilient infrastructure—a vision he believes will help Telangana become a $3 trillion economy by 2047.
