BSP announces 1st list of 20 candidates for Telangana Assembly polls; slams KCR for ‘luring people with schemes’

Declaring that it was time for the “rule of Bahujans”, the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) on Tuesday, 3 October, announced its first list of 20 candidates for the upcoming Telangana Assembly elections

The seats include nine in the general category, eight reserved for Schedule Caste (SC) candidates, and three for Schedule Tribe (ST) candidates.

Announcing the list at the party’s Hyderabad headquarters, BSP central coordinator Ramji Gautam — also a Member of Parliament — said, “If the people in Telangana want to get rid of the continuous question paper leaks, then the BSP members must be voted to power; only they understand the pulse of the people.”

The candidates

The party’s national president and former IPS officer Praveen Kumar said after the announcement, “The official website of the BSP has received over 1,500 applications. After scrutinising the work done and the popularity of the leader in public, names have been selected to contest in elections. There will be no changes in the first list.”

The BSP’s stand

“The party is declaring the initial list with the intention of starting the rule of Bahujans. The KCR government is registering cases in police stations and luring people with schemes. We are fighting back to get justice for the minorities in the society,” said Praveen Kumar on Tuesday.

“All the Opposition parties are confusing people with false promises, but our candidates will give their best in reaching out to explain to the people how well the BSP can rule the state,” he added.

“Our political leader Ramji Gautam was vocal on establishing a Tribal University in Mulugu. The promises were made in 2014 but after that, it has been all silence. The elected MPs of Telangana never questioned the status of this university, but our leader has taken the initiative in bringing it to the people of Telangana,” he added

“Why are the political leaders of Telangana not making the Samagraha Kutumba Survey results public? How will you use this survey? It is a plot to attract people only during the elections. Are the BRS and the BJP in alliance? Why is K Kavitha, daughter of the chief minister of Telangana, involved in the liquor scam but not being arrested?” he asked.

“Our message to Election Commission officials who have arrived in the city is to keep an eye on the transfer of bureaucrats who were the middlemen supporting BRS politicians,” he alleged.

“One of our members, Vatte Janaiah, is being framed in unnecessary cases by the ruling party’s MLA Jagadish Reddy from Suryapet. There should be a response to all these illegal activities in Telangana,” added Praveen Kumar.
