Union Tourism Minister G Kishan Reddy on Tuesday, 21 January, said that the BRS government continues to turn a blind eye towards the social development in Telangana, with reduced spending and budgetary allocations in all major social sectors.

“This is a clear indication of where the priorities of the farmhouse chief minister lie,” he said.

Taking to Twitter

In a comprehensive Twitter thread, Reddy highlighted the neglect of the social sectors by the BRS government in Telangana with lower budgetary allocations, compared to the national average of states.

He said that even after repeated lapses, there has been no effort to improve the existing poor basic infrastructure in the government schools of Telangana.

The BRS government spending on human resources and education continues to be abysmally low and well below national average, he tweeted.

Roads and urban development

Stating that roads and bridges were crucial to foster economic activity in the region, Reddy said Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao believes that a Bangaru Telangana doesn’t need high-quality infrastructure as the budget allocation for bridges and roads is just 3.7 percent.

With a mere 2.8 percent allocation of the budget for urban development, Telangana is lower than the national average spending, the Union Minister said.

“No wonder we see such a skew in development within Hyderabad itself, where many parts are totally neglected,” he noted, adding that KCR has been ignoring the needs and requirements of rural Telangana.

The budget allocation for rural development was seeing a gradual reduction every year under KCR’s rule, he reiterated. He has totally failed in providing the necessary cushion to rural livelihoods.

Health and Law & Order

Referring to law and order, Reddy said the law and order in the state was witnessing degradation and was touching a new low.

The same was reflected in the budget allocation for police in Telangana, he said.

Regarding state budget allocation for the healthcare sector, Reddy tweeted, “KCR considers Telangana a ‘Jewel in the country in terms of healthcare’ but not in terms of spending and allocation.” He quipped that the state’s healthcare budget was lower than the national average.
