BRS boycott Modi

The ruling BRS in Telangana has decided to boycott Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s official programmes in Warangal on Saturday, 8 July, to protest against the Union government failure to allot a railway coach factory to Kazipet.

The party claimed that the prime minister was trying to fool the people of Telangana by laying the foundation stone for a railway wagon manufacturing factory and periodic overhaul facility which together cost only about ₹520 crore.

₹520 crore vs ₹20k crore

Speaking to media persons at Telangana Bhavan in Hyderabad, BRS working president KT Rama Rao said that the people of Telangana were aware that about a year ago the prime minister laid the foundation stone for a railway coach factory in Dahod in Gujarat with an investment of ₹20,000 crore.

“What is ₹520 crore as against ₹20,000 crore? Are you throwing bread crumbs at us?” he asked

The BRS leader said that Prime Minister Modi cannot pull the wool over the eyes of the people of Telangana with inane promises as they know he discriminates against the state.

Ever since he took over as the prime minister in 2014, he had been discriminating against Telangana, KTR said.

“Though a coach factory was promised in the Andhra Pradesh State Reorganisation Act, it has not been implemented. The other promises made to Telangana in the Act also did not see the light of the day. They included a tribal university and a steel factory. Isn’t he ashamed of visiting Telangana without honouring the assurances made in the Act?” KTR asked.

‘PM’s stand against Telangana is known’

He said that the Prime Minister made his stand against Telangana known in 2014 when he had said that by dividing the state, the mother was sacrificed to save the baby.

“It is the prime minister who has been fanning the flames of communalism in the country and that is the reason why we have decided to boycott his programmes,” KTR said.

Taking a dig at Congress state president A Revanth Reddy criticism of Dharani, the land management portal of Telangana, KTR reminded him to keep in mind that the entire Congress party was in the hands of a foreigner.

“Revanth always speaks about thousands of crores. I believe he has lost his mental balance. Everyone remembers how Revanth Reddy made a stupid statement that underneath the old secretariat, lay hidden thousands of crores of rupees when we were beginning the work of construction of a new secretariat,” he said.

KTR said that if Revanth Reddy had any evidence of mismanagement of the Dharani portal, he was free to hand it over to the central investigation agencies and ask them to inquire into his allegations.

‘Let people decide’

“Dharani has helped the people and we would prove our point with the help of a power-point presentation. Let the people decide whether Dharnai should stay or go,” he added.

KTR said Revanth, who is known to have made money using the Right to Information Act, was unable to bear the sight of the people registering their lands with ease through Dharani.

Revanth Reddy is agitated as, after the advent of Dharani, he could not commit any land scams, KTR said.

The BRS leader sought to establish a pact between the Congress and the BJP, by expressing a doubt why Revanth Reddy does not say a word against the saffron party.

“Revanth Reddy does not use one word against Narendra Modi or the BJP. That was the reason why we had said that a Godse had entered Gandhi Bhavan,” he said, adding that the Congress leader was a hard-boiled RSS leader and yet he was leading the party in Telangana.

‘Secret alliance between Congress, BJP’

The BRS leader alleged that the Congress and the BJP entered into a secret alliance and defeated the BRS candidate (his sister K Kavitha) in the election to the Lok Sabha from Nizamabad in 2019.

He said in all the by-elections that had followed, the Congress and the BJP worked hand in glove.

Taking aim at Rahul Gandhi, KTR said no one recognised him as a senior leader of the party and he was not the president of the Congress, nor even an MP.

“I would like to know in what capacity he had made the promise that he did in Khammam on 2 July? The people would not trust the promises made by someone who is not in any position of power,” he said.

“The Telangana people know how the Congress had eaten into the vitals of the country for the last 55 years. They are aware of the history of the party from the days of Rahul Gandhi’s great-grandfather. These old vultures now have come back in new avatars, but the people of Telangana would not trust them,” he said.
