The monsoon sessions of the Telangana State Legislative Assembly and Council will begin on 3 August.

Being an election year, the chief minister is likely to announce a few more welfare schemes to reap electoral dividends. The Opposition parties may try to force the government on the backfoot for its failures.

With rains inflicting untold miseries on the people, the Opposition parties are likely to corner the government for its failure to rise to the occasion.

Additionally, they would also try to put the government on the mat over the alleged corruption, which is an evergreen subject to corner the ruling dispensation. The alleged corruption in entrusting the ring road maintenance to a private company might also be debated.

Cabinet meeting on Monday

The BRS is getting ready to give a fitting reply on the issues that the Opposition would raise in the session. A state Cabinet meeting scheduled for Monday, 31 July, will discuss 40 to 50 issues to prepare the ministers to give satisfactory replies to questions that the Opposition might raise.

The issues the Cabinet meeting will discuss include the measures taken by the government to mitigate the suffering of the people affected by heavy rains that have lashed the state for the past one week, according to an official communication from the Chief Minister’s Office.

The meeting will assess the damage to the crops at a time when agriculture operations were in full swing in the villages. The Cabinet would make decisions to help the farmers to tide over the crisis.

The Cabinet also would assess the damages to roads with several streams and rivulets overflowing them. The meeting will decide on the repairs to be carried out to restore the roads that had been washed away. It will also consider a proposal to raise the salaries of the TSRTC employees, the release said.

The state government has called for the monsoon session of the Assembly as it must hold a session every six months. As the budget session ended on 12 February, the state government is constitutionally bound to convene the next session before August 11.

According to sources, the monsoon session would be a brief affair and a Business Advisory Committee meeting on the first day would decide its duration. In all likelihood, the monsoon session would be the last for this government as elections are likely in November or December.
