BRS MPs Dr Ranjith Reddy, Pasunoori Dayakar join Congress.

In what can be seen as an exodus from the BRS in Telangana, Chevella MP Dr Ranjith Reddy announced his resignation from the pink party on Sunday, 17 March and joined the Congress.

On Saturday, BRS Warangal MP Pasunoori Dayakar had also resigned from the party and joined the ruling Congress in the state.

BRS patriarch K Chandrashekhar Rao had offered Ranjith Reddy a ticket to contest again from Chevalla but the latter had turned it down. After he went incommunicado, BRS announced Kasani Gnaneshwar as its MP candidate from the seat. Now Reddy has joined Congress.

Meanwhile, incumbent Khairtabad MLA Danam Nagender also joined the grand old party on Sunday.

Nagendar, who claims former Congress chief minister of the erstwhile united Andhra Pradesh YS Rajasekhar Reddy as his inspiration, had recently met Congress leaders along with Dayakar.

Resignation of Reddy from BRS

On Sunday, Reddy announced his resignation from the BRS through a post on X. He joined the Congress in the presence of Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy and AICC in-charge for Telangana Deepa Das Munshi.

Reddy, a prominent figure in the party who has a strong presence in the Chevella constituency had been conspicuously absent from recent party gatherings.

His departure from the K Chandrashekar Rao-led party might hand it a major blow since the party was banking on him to retain its Lok Sabha seat from the Chevella constituency.

Announcing his resignation from the party, Reddy said that he took the decision considering the current “political circumstances” in Telangana.

“I would like to express my heartfelt gratitude for the invaluable opportunity provided by the party to address and resolve the crucial issues affecting the residents of the former Ranga Reddy and Vikarabad Districts. Your confidence in my abilities has empowered me to serve the constituents of Chevella, my parliamentary constituency effectively,” he wrote on X.

“I am sincerely thankful for your steadfast support throughout this journey. Unfortunately, due to the current political circumstances in Telangana, I have come to the difficult decision to pursue an alternative path,” Reddy added.

Dayakar joins Congress

A Congress press release said that Warangal MP Dayakar joined the grand old party on Saturday in the presence of state Congress working president Mahesh Kumar Goud, state Forest Minister Konda Surekha, and other leaders.

Dayakar said that the BRS nominated Dr Kadiyam Kavya, daughter of former minister Kadiyam Srihari, for Warangal seat even though she was not related to any movements led by the party.

He said that he chose the Congress to “work for the people of Telangana”.

Dayakar told reporters, “I have worked as an activist in the Telangana agitation movement for the last 23 years. I have also won as MP twice. I observed a change in Congress’s government and the implementation of six guarantees, so I am also interested in working for the people of Telangana. Congress government provides public governance. People have faith in the Congress party.”

“I was with BRS for the last 13 years and Kadiyam Srihari’s daughter, who is unrelated to any movement, has been given an MP ticket. I was not given a protocol as an MP and this is an insult to me. With all the happenings I have decided to leave the BRS party.”

In recent weeks, BRS has seen some of its MPs switching over to other parties. BRS MPs from Zaheerabad and Nagarkurnool, BB Patil and P Ramulu respectively, had joined the BJP.
