Telangana Minister of IT and Industries and BRS Working President KT Rama Rao — popularly known as KTR — took exception to the comments of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who visited Telangana on Sunday, 1 October, and said BRS was a family party.
Responding to PM Modi accusing the BRS of being a “family party”, KTR said: “BRS is a family of four crore people in Telangana and Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao is the head of the family.”
He added that Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao took the place of a son while providing pensions to the elderly and stood as a brother to the farmers by giving Rythu Bandhu and Rythu Bheema.
“KCR is a member of every family in Telangana,” he said.
He was speaking at Peddapalli on Sunday after distributing Gruhalaxmi and Dalit Bandhu proceedings to beneficiaries.
In the public meeting held at Mahabubnagar district on Sunday, Modi claimed that the people of Telangana wanted a change to “a transparent and honest government instead of a corrupt government”.
Continuing his attack on dynasty politics, Modi said the dominance of two family-controlled political parties was hampering the advancement of Telangana. He was referring to the BRS and the Congress.
“Both parties have gained notoriety with their involvement in corruption and commission-based activities. Their modus operandi appears strikingly similar: These parties seem to follow a pattern where they operate like a family enterprise — for the family’s benefit, and by the family,” he said.
“It is as if they are transforming the essence of democracy into a hereditary dynasty. Their party functions like a privately-held company with key positions such as the president, CEO, director, treasurer, general manager, chief manager, and manager held by individuals from the same family. Occasionally, they bring in outsiders to serve as support staff,” Modi added.
KTR stated that PM Modi cheated the people of Ramagundam by auctioning Singerani coal mines, in an attempt to privatise Singareni. The BRS working president also stated that the strategy of the prime minister was to push state-run companies into losses and later privatise them for the benefit of his corporate friends like Adani.
Lashing out at the statement of PM Modi who said Chief Minister KCR was not waving off farm loans in Telangana, KTR said that the chief minister had waived off farm loans twice in the state.
He asked the prime minister not to make baseless comments.
In a satirical tone, KTR said that the people of India were calling Pradani (prime minister) Adani. He also added that the BJP would not even regain deposits in the upcoming election in Telangana.
Attacking the Congress party, KTR said, “I don’t know about the six guarantees of the Congress, but if they come to power in Telangana, three things are guaranteed and that includes a three-hour power supply every day, a change of CM every year, and a lot of scams.”
KTR said that the Congress party promised to give ₹4000 as a pension even though it had given only ₹200 as a pension for six decades.
“People are not ready to trust Congress leaders and their false promises,” he said.
Taking a dig at the Congress and BJP leaders visiting the state, the minister said that leaders from different parties started coming to the people just before the elections similar to singers coming to their houses before the Sankranthi festival.
“All they do is make false promises and I request you to be cautious and do not fall into their trap,” he added.
The BRS working president made the above comments while addressing the gatherings after participating in various development programmes in Chennur, Ramagundem, and Peddapalli constituencies on Sunday.
KTR highlighted the growth in Telangana in the last nine years under the leadership of Chief Minister KCR. He stated that Peddapalli became a headquarters, bringing much-needed relief to the people for availing government services.
KTR also thanked the Singareni Collieries employees for their relentless efforts in achieving Telangana statehood along with other state government employees.
He highlighted that the Telangana government provided increments and dependent job opportunities which benefited many.
