KCR at an election rally

The Opposition BRS has unanimously elected former chief minister K Chandrashekar Rao as its legislative party leader in the Telangana Assembly.

The legislature party, which met at Telangana Bhavan on Saturday, 9 December, elected KCR as it probably did not want to take any chances in times of adversity.

Former Speaker Pocharam Srinivas Reddy proposed KCR’s name while former ministers T Srinivas Yadav and Kadiam Srihari seconded it.

KCR recuperating

The party which met under the chairmanship of BRS Parliamentary Party leader K Keshava Rao, also passed a resolution, authorising KCR to appoint the remaining body of the legislature party.

The BRS supremo’s election as the legislative party leader came ahead of the first session of the third Telangana Assembly.

KCR has been recuperating after a hip-replacement surgery. He had suffered a fracture following a fall at his farmhouse early on Friday.

Earlier on Saturday, AIMIM’s Akbaruddin Owaisi was sworn-in as the Assembly’s pro-team Speaker at a function held in the Raj Bhavan.

All the newly-elected MLAs of Telangana would take oath during the first session of the Legislative Assembly that began at 11 am on Saturday.

Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy, who was in Delhi, returned to Hyderabad on time to attend Owaisi’s swearing-in ceremony.
